My local Sportsman's Warehouse is closing, and I'm very devastated. I went back today because I found some gift cards I had to spend. I knew I'd have to walk out of there with something! The place was gutted in there, even the fixtures were being sold. But they had some odds and ends, and rifles/shotguns left.

Funnily enough, a rifle I was checking out a couple of months ago was there! It's an H&R .45-70 with rifle sights and synthetic furniture. Very handy and well balanced. I paid around $125 after all the cards and discounts. Ammo prices will kill me, but it's too cool not to get at that price (and like I said, I had to take something home with me).

It should make a really excellent woods bumming rifle / camp gun. I really like how it shoulders and the sight picture. Now I've got to try and find ammo for less than $30/box!!!!!

Very nice like that one alot, I've got an old lee endfield N0.4 MII I use up here, its my woods bumming gun.

My next gun is a break barrel too, a Cooey 12g.
When it gets here I am going to cut the barrel down to 18'' (legal minimum in Canada) for a camp gun. (Not really a hijack, I thought it was a shotgun when I saw the barrel. Those 45/70's are pretty fat!)

Thats a great looking rifle. 45-70 is a great round. But your right it is very expensive. If you havent learned how to reload , now might be the perfect time.

Awesome choice, Spooky! And a +1 on the reloading; this round can be very versatile when custom loaded!

Thanks guys! It'd oughta be a heck of a shooter. I'm very excited. Re: being a thumper- yup! Gonna be a roller coaster.

I do need to get back into reloading. I used to do it when I was a kid with my dad, I just haven't broken down and bought all the accouterments. I've actually got a single stage LEE press (just no place to put it!). All in good time...

I think now is a great time to learn to reload.

I have a feeling that were going to wish we had learned a few years from now.

Spooky,

Great score:thumbup: I'm a fan of the 45-70 and similar cartridges. I've been carrying a .444 Marlin for years. Let us know how it works out...

Nice Rifle Spooky, I had the NEF Rifle In 45-70 just like your's but mine was the Older Model with all Wood, I ended up selling It, Here's a picture of the Ammo. that Bad Boy use's,
