I just received my newest order from Ragnar, from Ragweed Forge.
http://www.ragweedforge.com
After many, many dealings with him for the last 3 years, I might sound as a broken record...
Buth the truth is, he is good. No, better say : great.
If I was a participant in the reenacting group he is part of, I would suggest, he be called Ragnar the Great, no less.
I have ordered a few new Mora's, a Wetterling carpenter's axe and a carbon alloy cast Allan Octagon hawk.
Ragnar himself heat treats the carbon alloy Allan hawks, puts on the handles and sharpens them.
He also sharpened for me the Wetterling axe.
Both the hawk and the axe arrived with shaving sharp convex edges.
He even soaked and coated the handle of the hawk with some oil (linseed?).
This is the smoothest feeling yet grippy enough hawk handle I had so far, and I had quite a few.
I have only 2 "complaints":
1) Ragnar told me, he accidentally chipped the hawk's handle when secured it.
He felt that the handle is good and secure as it is, so he did not replace it with a new one. As an apology he included free of charge a spare handle.
Well, I had to look hard to discover a miniature, very thin sliver missing at the top end of the handle, which in no way would affect not only the stability of the hawk but the aesthetics either.
2) I specificly asked Ragnar to charge me the full shipping charges, especially that this was a heavy shipment.
Instead, he informed me after shipping out my order that he is charging me only his usual low shipping charge.
So my complaint is, that while I am very happy with my order I feel bad now for Ragnar, I feel like I took advantage of his kindness.
I e-mailed him quite a few times about specific questions on hawks etc. and he always took the time to answer me with great patience, and share his great knowledge.
Ragnar is a class in himself.
