Rail anvil?

I could use a small anvil, mostly for peining pins. I've seen people use a small section of train rail, and I think that would be perfect. Where do you guys get those? Thanks!

You can look in the Yellow pages for railroad maintenance companies and they would most likely have scrap rail. I use a 10" piece for hammering the final edge on blades since the rail has a slight convex to it.

between 6 and 8 inches I'd say. I make folders...or try to anyway... Where are you located?

My office blocked all personal emails. I'll check it when I get home tonight. I appreciate the help.

I was driving by some guys working on the railroad tracks and stopped and talked to them a bit. I got a 30ft rail with a slight kink in one end for 50 bucks. They let me use their torch to cut it into 3 10' pieces and then they helped me use their fork lift to load it into my pick up. I now have 2 10 ft ballast skegs under my 38 ft boat and 10ft left over for making a treadle hammer. You need to ask the guys that actually do the work. Most of them probably could careless if you packed it all off. Also go to welding shops and steel recycling yards and ask for something similar. They have a heavy piece of drop somewhere.

Thanks for the offer IG, I should have checked with you first; I could be in New Bedford in like 25 minutes. Finnigan hooked me up with a piece.
