Top is a knife made from a railroad spike and the bottom is one made from a horse shoe. I have had these for a number of years

Ive actually made a few out of railroad spikes, good metal, but I like how they did a bowie blade, Ive always done a tanto point, but to each their own

i love seeing knives made from recycled steel.

lovely work on both. i particularly like the spiral handle on the spike blade.

The top one appears to have been made in France.

One person whose work with RR spike knives I always admired goes by the name of Butches Forge. Butch has a store here:

He's not producing spike knives at the moment. But I imagine if you contact him he'd make one up for you.

That railroad spike knife looks fantastic!
Who makes these?

I was at a gun show this weekend and met a bladesmith that makes these. His horseshoe was straighter and the handle was split, then braided back together, which was really unique looking. Both included leather sheaths. I didn't ask the price, but his regular knives were very well priced. His name is Frank Gonzales and his website is knivesbyhand.com.

Not to get too far off topic, but I must have spent 20 minutes at this guy's booth. He imports handmade Gurkhas from Nepal and learned from them how to taper the full tang of his knives in such a way that the every finger wraps around the handle equally. It also saves weight, but didn't look like it would effect the sturdiness at all. With other knife makers putting so much effort into skeletonizing a tang, I'm surprised no one thought to do something as simple and as effective as this.

I got these from a salesman and I was told these were made by a guy down around Wichita, Ks. But I cant really say for sure if this is right

I think I have found the guy who makes these. He is from Ak now. I would but his address on here but not sure if it would be ok. If anyone wants it PM me and will shoot the addy to you
