a guy gave me a blade off of some machine that the rail road used to cut brush and trees down along the tracks. it was about 3.5 feet around 2.5 inches wide and cant remember the thickness off the top of my head. it had a bevel on one side. i know i read on here that a couple guys worked for the rail road and was wondering if anyone knew what it was. this stuff is insanely hard. i could send a sample a way and i will if i have too but if any one out there knows it would be a help

thanks

Yes i worked alot of years on a brush cutter and now i am mad cause i threw away a hundred of those blades they are very hard high carbon steel . We sharpend them with side grinders and spark would spray 20 ft and start fires so that s a given right there . you would have to send them off but im guessing something like D2 because they dont rust. I found old ones in the grass no rust maybee 10 years old. Ill know they are some of the finest steel. I hit a pile of angle bars once spraying chunks 700 yards that weighed 10 pounds kinda scary huh lol. Had some wild things happen on that job i cut a rail in half once it was hidden in the grass. deadliest machine and really scary to opperate.I was one of the best in the buisness not bragging but trained alot of people over the years.

hellgap,

i've never seen the machine but i believe you, from just the little bit i have messed with it, those blades are awsome i might just send a chunck to be tested so i know for sure. its seems good enough steel to spend the 25 bucks to have it tested. all i know is that i am keeping anything imake out of this steel. i want the best for me!

thanks
