Rain, Caves, Fuzz Sticks, Fire, and Tea

Looks like a wonderful day.... nice pictures, reminds me of the woods around here before it got all covered with this white, cold wet, crappy snow.....

What no test fuzzy stick with the Axe? :D

I didn't think of that, but I sure could have done it. That axe is sharp.

great pics man.. thanks for sharing... looks like a fun day out in the woods..:) nice knife selection too..:D

Looks like a good time to me.

How did you do your paracord wrap on the Izula? I don't like anything hanging from my knife so the way most people do it with the tied part hanging off the end I don't like but you have the tied part inside the hole. I like it.

In my hunting area there is a cave I have been meaning to check out for around 10 years, however every time I am out, I am usually looking for other things or doing something else. Maybe the next trip it is time to get down and observe it.

Great post. That flood reconfigured the creek near me and wiped out this campsite which branches off Pickett Mill Creek

The cave...its really just a deep hole in the wall. There are much better ones around here, but they are privately owned.
Great photos! Thanks for sharing the trip. I need to get out now that I'm feeling better :D I understand you meant privately owned but this cracked me up. I imagined a haggard Cave-man in a loincloth with a spear standing next to a carving on the outside of the cave that read: Trespassers will be stabbed!

Is that in the WMA? Would like to check out that spot. I usually explore the area near Friendship Baptist Church off Braswell Mtn rd or the Mine areas near Goldmine Lake.

The knife is a JK Anniversary EDC.I've been using the RAT fire kit with impressive results.

Wow! Another Dallas-ite!

The cave area is off Brushy Mtn road. Its the first gated road on the right coming from 278. You just go down to the creek and follow the creek back upstream about 100 yards then look up. Like I said its really just a big hole in the wall, but it would keep you dry in today's rain.

Have you been to the Goldmine lately? The are cutting the woods down around that area. Its a selective harvest, but they're getting a bunch of them all along the old access roads.

This is what it looked like a few months ago. There is a lot more gone now.

Thanks for the directions. Been around a month since I've been there. The clear cut came right to the edge where the rock outcroppings are on the hill adjacent to the mines.
The woods around my place have been clear cut also-Looks like an impact area. Destroyed most of my trail system. Gotta rebuild.
Will be off next week. If possible maybe we can link up for a short excursion.

Sounds good. Check your PMs.

Edit...you can't receive PMs...oops

You have a good taste in sharp things and gear. Looks kind of like my set up.. ;)

I remeber when my guyot looked all shiney like that, oh the good ole days.

Nice job on the fuzzies as well.

Johnspark,
According to the Recreation guide Paulding Forest WMA map (Atlanta Mapping Inc) the spot from your excursion is in the area of Coordinates H- 18.
If You use that map my son and I found some nice rock outcroppings along the ridge at Q -22.75
There also some decent sheer walls near P -21.5. A buddy and I took one of my sons rappelling there about 15 years ago. It's got a bottom area where the RR crosses over the creek (through a tunnel and looks like a jungle area when the leaves are out!
