Could someone pull the thread or recommend a good lid for hiking/working in the rain during 70 plus temps? I am sure this has been done in the past. Tilley, Outdoor Research....? Thanks in advance.
Can't go wrong with Tilley, but personally, I wear An Outback Trading Company "willis oilskin". Waterproof, lightweight, breathes nicely. I love it. Just my .02...
I have a Tilley TH4 and I couldn't be happier with it. It is commonly over 90 degrees with high humidity and/or rain and the hat is always comfortable.
I'm not really a hat person either, but I love this hat.
Good ol' GI Boonie at ten bucks.
orrrr.... http://usa.onlinekakadu.com/products/hats take your pick. I have the Stockman and I don't leave the house without it these days. I paid 30 bucks for it.
I have a wool felt "indiana jones" type hat from Stetson, and I love it. I think the style is called a lodon explorer. But the best hat for you is one that is of sturdy construction and looks good on you! Good hunting!
in a hot climate (like outback Queensland where I live), i wear a mesh sided Jacaru .
the mesh sides means it is that hat that just will not blow off. ever. i'm serious. i wore one of these in Cape Town and the wind funnelling through buildings was so strong we had to lean into it and baseball caps were going flying. meanwhile my Jacaru stayed put on my bonce.
These are really great hats. Super tough and light weight. I find that the goretex and other lining in hats made by OR and columbia make my head sweat.
