Hello, i want to show you my last work, it´s a fighter knife. The blade was forged from a 100 layer self-made damascus, from 1070 and 15n20 1,2 mm plates. Handle is made from goldfield wood, buffalo horn, brass, and a simple nickel/steel forge welded guard. In the next weekend i want to make the sheath, i will post photos.

I hope you to like it. Regards, Pablo.

Did you main your raindrops by drilling or another method?

In this case, when the billet was about 10 mm, i drilled it (about 3 mm depth drills with 8 mm) Then hammered to 5-6 mm (3 mm at edge) and, then stock-removed. I obtained better pattern removing a bit of material.

Did you hand-hammer or power hammer? I wanted to try raindrop but I was worried about cold shuts doing it by hand hammer and not a press.

Nice knife. Excellent pattern on the damascus.

For those who are wondering, "Goldfield Wood/Burl" is a commercial name for pretty much any species of Australian burl and other woods the seller has. This handle looks a lot like rib/flame mallee, but it could be she-oak, or a dozen others Australian woods..

Stacy, they can call it whatever they want; I call that wood gorgeous. The damascus is very nice, too.

Well done !!! It's a lovely looking piece of work, and great that you also made the Damascus ! Frank

I used a press for the forge-welding, but at the final steps (after drilling), it was hammered by hand.

Thanks all you. Pablo.

Thanks for showing this. i have some raindrop pattern damascus, and it's nice to see how the pattern looks on a finished blade. Very pretty.

Tere are some photos of the knife with the sheath. It´s very simply, made from cow leather and sting ray skin. Regards, Pablo.

I am in love with how the guard turned out. Care to share some tips on forge welding the nickel/steel combo? Does it weld like other damascus?

It´s very easy to weld steel and nickel, i think it welds at less temp than steel/steel.

Thank you. Pablo.
