So it's about 37 degrees, damp, and raining off and on. I'm going stir crazy sitting around indoors, so how about some suggestions about some stuff/skills to try out in the woods behind my place? I was thinking about some simple shelter building and fire starting. I'm likely to have my 2 1/2 year old sidekick whatever I decide to do today.

How about:
- hiking around looking for tinder to discover what's available and where when raining?
- setting up a quick tarp shelter to huddle under with the tot?
- looking for insects to send in to Discovery Channel for Bear to eat?
- emailing some more pics as go-bys for a Helle sheath?

((( :D )))

I loved strolls with my toddler. Once we discovered Castle Rock, and Dead Mans Slide. He liked naming things. Ten years later he still remembers Castle Rock and Dead Mans Slide.

Well, we went out and made a fire ring, and then enjoyed a fire. I'm glad that I could get a fire going relatively easily in spite of the rain and wet. I played with some jute twine and fatwood for the first time. I also discovered that the Helle isn't the best choice for batoning, but there was no irreparable damage.

huh, it was beautiful all day over here

when stuck inside i usually take the time to play with sharpening or modding different blades. you could also sit down on a hard floor and practice whittling trap parts (its easier to sweep up wood than vacuum it).

you could go through your kits and repack them, or check to make sure that everything is still fresh and in good condition.

good to hear you were able to enjoy yourself instead of being stuck inside all day

it can be its own survival situation...;)
