Ok here is the scoop
Yes we have three projects in the works but a lesson we learned recently is we need to get the contracts in place prior to any final decision.
These projects are a Scorpion in two sizes with a Zytel handle. And a double Action Automatic with a Rolling Rock and a safty. Time frame will depend on a number of factors SHOT Show is a remote possibilty.

I got one at the NYC Show! It looks exactly like the one in the pic above except it has carbon fiber scales.

It is an amazing knife.

You got the proto for the recat folder just bigger. The one above is just like it except the pearl. The damascus knife I have in my picture book is about .5 inches shorter.
The one you have is the one shown to Bob at the show. I think you saw the plastic mock ups Bob gave me?

Darrel,

Yes, I saw the mockups. Did he craft those from a photograph or the knife I bought? Just curious.

Anyway, the knife is absolutely amazing. It's balance is the best I've ever felt in a folder. It is extremely alive in the hand and is an absolute user - well, a very beautiful and expensive user. It would be almost impossible for me to put this knife in the safe...it begs to be used.

If you look at the pic above, you may think that the bolsters are somehow attached to an interframe like the screwed on handle slabs. in reality, the bolsters and the pommel are the frame. The handle is basically, one anodized ti frame. It is extremely strong and built to withstand some serious action. The anodized ti locking bar is recessed into the ti frame and is shaped like a "T" at the end where it is attached to the frame. This provides secure attachment and minimizes greatly any chance of lock failure. (At least that's what Darrel told me

)

Basically, my take is that it is an excellent self defense folder...one of the best. It is large (OAL - 11.25 in open, 6.25 in. closed), but it fits well in the back pocket of my jeans, or in my vest or jacket pocket. It maneuvers with eloquence and opens smoothly with ease. Or, it just flicks out with the slightest snap of the wrist. It is a gentleman's fighting folder....elegant, modest, and lethal.

Ronald, what's the blade length on this bad boy? If it's up in Sifu territory or longer I'm *extremely* interested...I already know that long slender folders are easier to do a fast-draw sheath for.

Jim

My version has a 5 inch blade. I believe the REKAT version will be quite small compared to the custom. I can't recall the exact dimensions, but it was approx. a 3.5 - 3.75 in. blade. Darrel told me he chose that particular size because most of his customers tend to gravitate towards those dimensions.

Ronald, Jim
Yes the Recat version will be a small carry. I cannot speak for Bob but we have descussed a new horizon for recat in a small folder that is sleek and a great everday carry.

The knife above was machined from 3/16 solid ti slabs. It comes with a replacable lock bar
full back spine ..420v hand satin finish The blade thickness is about .110. This is thin for a folder this size...and the blade DOES sit right in the middle of the frame. I am very outspoken about thin blades and minimalization of handle to blade ratio.
I have to thank Guiness for digging this folder up from that archives and yelling at me until I built him one. . I made the first scorpion 7 years about. It was a all damascus auto with gold pearl inlays....

I really like this folder in the big size. Bob already has the fantastic sifu folder..
So that department is closed..

I feel the project will go well..
Thanks for the kind words

Mr. Ralph had a mockup in plastic of the prototype at the NYC show. I'd almost forgotten that. From what I was able to determine from playing w/ the model, it should be a Very Nice Knife. Any idea as to the price point? ETA?

Ok guys...for financial reasons, I must sell my Scorpion prototype!

It is exactly like the knife posted above except that the handle scales are carbon fiber instead of mother of pearl - a serious user for those interested in such things. More detail can be obtained in the previous posts above. The knife will come with a letter of authenticity.

Please go the the For Sale Forum for further details.
