Rambo makes a big knife

I remember reading that in the novelization, but I didn't realize the scene was actually filmed. In the book, he forged it out of 440C.
 
Although hard to say for sure, the shot opens with Rambo hitting the metal wrapping around a wooden wagon wheel as if he had just finished attaching it.

My "guess" is that the story concept might have been that after Rambo fixed the wheel he just kept working with that metal and made himself a big knife.

While I always suggest that guys post some video of their forge work on to YouTube so the rest of us can learn from them, I also tell them to turn off the setting that allows people to post comments about their YouTube video clips.

There is just no need to have to read such crap.
