Despite all my calculations and thinking I had more than enough of my refractory cement mix I came up short by almost a third. I covered the exposed top with some moist paper towels and set the kit in the boiler room to set up.

The forge length is 15.5" and I got about 11" packed with cement. Can I just get some more cement on Monday and carry on where I left off or are there special considerations? Should I wait till my Satanite arrives and use some like a mortar in the joint?

Here's a couple pics for the curious.

Yes, it is a hacked up 23 Litre pail that's been resized to ~9.5" diameter... and it really sucks welding a 1/4" wall pipe to that thin steel pail.

You should be okay just continuing where you left off. The real danger in drying comes in the forst firing. Just go slow and you will be fine. Good work, BTW.

Thank you.

Hopefully I'll finish it off on Monday and let it dry in the boiler room all week then all Sunday to do a good slow fire.
