Spent three days camping out at the Salton Sea and during a hike I ran into this Western Diamondback on the trail. Scary part is I was chatting with my wife and the snake let me know he saw me first and started rattling. We stayed about 20 feet away and it took him about five minutes to calm down before he moved off. He looked to be a little over four feet and according to his rattle he was about 9 years old.
Great pic/s! I'd like to run up on one, but have had no luck seeing a rattler the last year or so.
Love tonym's video...something I won't do, no matter what kind of snake it is!

I ran into one two summers ago while hiking Badger Springs Wash in AZ. It was so big in the thickest part of its body that I couldn't get my thumbs and second fingers to touch around it. I know they have a place in the world and nature, but my attitude about rattlers changed several years ago when my Labrador was bitten twice by one and nearly died. I'm now quite happy to let them live as long as I don't see them.
