Randall EDC?

In another thread I just saw a beautiful Randall made "Gambler" knife which is jaw dropping. I have a Randall catalog on it's way to me but I thought I'd ask yall if Randall made other EDC capable fixed blades of the 3-4 inch blade variety?

I EDC (every day carry) a victorinox explorer plus and a Bradley Mayhem but I thought it would be nice to rotate with a Randall.

Any guidance/comments appreciated.

I don't have a picture of it, but I EDC a Randall Tri-Athlete. It's doesn't have any handle material, is light weight and comes with a nice leather pouch with a clip on the back. I carry mine in the inside pocket of my jacket. Other models that I've EDC'd was a model 5-4 and a model 8-4.

I should take a couple snapshots of my #5-4" with Brass furniture and Ironwood handle...

Here we go...

Oh my, now that's nice KL! If I could take photographs like yours, I'd put up a little Tom Leschorn assembled #7-4.5 that I've got; similar to your #5-4 without the end cap, it's got a NS hilt and NS spacers--I' hadn't seen NS spacers on a RMK before, or since...

Thanks for shooting that knife and posting it here lunde...simply spectacular.

Anyone know what the wait time is for a new Randall?

That depends on how you order it:

1) Direct from the shop: five years. The advantage is cost, meaning that your $50 deposit guarantees that you will pay 2009 catalog price in 2014.

2) Through an authorized Randall dealer: one year or more. The cost will vary from catalog price at the time of delivery to some form of markup. The advantage is that you can specify the options you want, and not have to wait five years.

3) You find one that is ready. You may luck out and find the model and configuration that you want, either through an authorized dealer or other venue (eBay). There is generally a markup of some sort, but it may be worth it to you.

Five years...yeah that would be worth the wait but is quite a long time.

Are there any authorized Randall dealers that you recommend?

Spot on KL.

Well, I just got the call and we're on for the Glacier National Park Snyder Lake hike in the morning, and I'm gonna carry a little #8-4 that I've been thinking about adding to my hiking gear. Ultra-lightweight, it's a mid to late 70's SS version with a brass hilt and thin black micarta handle; pretty basic in its JRB, it's wicked shrap and damn near new...

Film at 11 ;)

Nordic Knives, Clinton Knives, and Rick Ward are dealers who are set up to let you specify options.

Other dealers seem to receive knives, with various options, and put them up for sale, and it is unclear whether they allow customers to special-order them, meaning to specify the options: Blue Star Knives (aka, Melvin-Purvis), BP Outdoors, Custom Grips & Knives, Loess Hills Gun & Knife, Michigan Knives, Plaza Cutlery, A. G. Russell, Spaceport Cutlery, Spyderco, and so on. (I should point out that it is sometimes difficult to ascertain whether these are authorized Randall dealers, or simply order knives at catalog prices then mark them up. I suppose you could call Randall Made Knives to find out.

One dealer, SJJP Knives (aka, Steve Peters), has an extensive selection of Randalls for sale on eBay.

Just out of curiosity, what model and options are you considering?

Oh, that's a big list...thought there would only be a couple. Thanks for compiling it..

I would want a knife that I could edc, the gambler really has my attention right now....maybe the Model 26. I love the stacked leather handle but not sure I could get it on the model 26..then again I don't know how much customization Randall allows.

Edit: maybe a small stiletto

The #25 handle (stag that is sandwiched between stacked leather) is available for the #26.

If this is the handle you are talking about I think I'm in love:

I ordered a catalog a couple days ago and I think they said it would be a couple week before it arrived at my home. Can't wait to page through it...

bleev3: Drop me an email (lunde@adobe.com) when you have a chance. I have some useful information for you.

The GNP Snyder Lake hike today was great; other than it rained most of the 4.6 miles up, and most of the 4.6 miles down.

The upside was the rain kept the mosquito's at bay--no rain, mosquito madness; in other words, rain = no pain...lol

Thus, my vintage #8-4 spent most of the day covered by a rain coat, other than a little cheese cutting at lunch--in the rain, so no pics. No fish/fishing either, as we didn't have time due to my 3 hour mass casualty FD training this evening...

Great hike though...

KL, I buy collections, keep what I want and sell the rest. So, no real choice other'n what's there. I'm pretty darn picky about the collections purchased tho'...usually higher end or highly optioned knives.

I don't have a dealer membership with BFC so typically don't sell knives here other than those that I'd purchased for personal use--inexpensive non-RMK folders mostly, and even then only a few per year max...

lunde, love that desert ironwood, beeeeeeeeeeeautiful!!!!!!

that is what i ordered on my number 4 in april when i was at the shop...

yup 5 yr wait, but oh the bliss of knowing it is on the way, kinda like gettin a new car...

The Model 26 is the only Randall I have that I wear on my belt in town. There are a few reasons. One is that Tennessee law says the blade must be under 4 inches and not be double edged so this disqualifies the 4 inch Model 8.Another is that the blade shape is good for every day uses such as picking out a splinter from a finger or opening them human proof plastic packages that stuff comes in these days. But for me I would carry it instead of the Trout and Bird even if the law allowed double edges because the pouch sheath is easier to get it out and put it back with only one hand.It would work even better if there was no keeper strap and I would cut it off and burnish the cut edge if not for having the male end of the snap that would look kind of silly there with out the strap to snap it to.My 26 has the"plain old stag"handle that has aged to a real mellow honey color and seems to make a lot of non knife folks react to it with a "ooh thats a pretty knife" instead of the less positive comments that a knife with a Kydex sheath and a micarta handle might get.The blade is 01 tool steel and doesn't get polished although the brass gets shined with Simichrome sometimes.
