Randall Made Knives

Noob question..... I know. I am thinking of buying myself a Randall. There seem to be a few on Ebay.
Can someone who owns one give me a little feedback. First question is are they as good as some folks say in terms of durability, and edge holding. I tend to be a bit hard on my knives, none of mine are pristine. If I buy one from ebay will Randall Made still service it?

Don,

The people who own Randall Knives love them, Randall has a good service recond and is well thought of, however if yoiu get the knife scratched up they will charge you to refinish it. If you buy it from a Randall dealer who will guarantee it then you have a new knife at about what you would pay on ebay.

Does that cover your question about service?

Yes it does. As for useability that is really my issue. I have never owned a knife that I did not use at sometime, and my Randalls I am sure will be the same. The initial question was asked because I was looking at a well worn Randall on the $$bay. I decided to pass on that one. At present I have a model 14 standard, no options. I have a model 27 on the way. The 27 will probably be my regular camp knife so it will get used. The 14 can be a little intimidating to other people so it does not get used much. Thanks for the answer BTW.

Funny, you randall "collectors" just make the price go up, up, up, huh, for a factory knife. I did however like the one I carried in nam. a collector stole that one, he is dead now.

Trautman: You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In Vietnam his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well Rambo was the best.

Was his name Sheriff Teasle?

No, really, tell us about your kill?

Sir,
I too am new to the forum, but not a maker. A lifetime ago I had a Randall, but don't know what Model it was. I think it was a Mod 12. It had about a 6" blade and leather handle. I used it for everything from throwing while board to holding while scared at night. Wish I still had it. I had to keep the rust off of it, so that is a consideration depending on where you live. You can get one in stainless. It stayed fairly sharp, and I would occasionally have to try and put a better edge on it or get a nick out of the blade. My only complaint was the surface rust.

My thought is that if it was not a good knife, why would there be a 3 year waiting period to get one. A lot of people just want to say they have a Randall and put it in a case or somewhere. I have a new Mod 14 as of early this month and it has been on hiking trails twice.

Just my opinion.
