Randall model 3 hunter

I bought a new Stag handled 25-5 Randall 5 years ago. Beautiful to look at but the edge is the dullest of any new knife i have ever bought. That is very dull because most new knives arrive less than sharp.
It will not cut anything, not even string.
I could try sharpening it, but then it is no longer mint and value on secondary market will drop.
Rough Rider knives always arrive sharp. Randalls cost more than 25 times as much and arrive dull.
It's not just my Randall. There are posts here in BF about dull Randalls.

Yes all were extremely sharp new out of box. I've never butchered a deer. Only field dressed them so can't speak to the cutting the legs off.

Also I just use a Norton stone to maintain the edge. Have used a diamond stone and it too worked fine.

I have an interesting one- used, but not by me.

I was at their shop in Orlando about 10 years ago. The final sharpening station is just inside the door. They do it by hand using a stone.

Kootenay, send it back to Randall to make it right. If it's new and Randall sharpens it, it is still mint.

The model 3 with a leather handle and an O-1 blade is as classic as a pre 64 model 70 or a bamboo fishing pole made by some guy named Jim Payne.

A few old friends here.... Since 1938 Randall has made some of the nicest knives in the world. In my mind the only real drawback is the choice of steels. If Randall would get into the game on some more modern steels I'd buy more knives from them. Their 01 RC is listed at a relatively soft 53-54. Easy to sharpen though. I'd love to see a Randall in something like 3V...
