Randall Spacers?

I recently purchased a Randall model 25 and it seems that the fiber spacers are inset more than the alluminium ones (which creates a rough texture). My model 26 however, the spacers are perfectly smooth. Is my 25 made shoddy? Or did the spacers shrink? If so, Why?

The spacers didn't shrink. What you are experiencing is the result of undercutting. That is when something is polished to death and the softer material gets eroded more than the harder material. It's usually the result of someone trying to polish out scratches that should be sanded out. If it's barely noticeable, I'd ignore it. If the spacers are well below the aluminum, I would be unhappy.

I guess the spacers are not too bad, but when you pay 300+ for a knife, you expect the tolorances to be pretty tight. I should have inspected it better before I purchased it (I was in kind of a hurry). It had such a beautiful peice of stag, and I have been wanting a 25 so long I just had to have it!

You might want to email Randal Made Knives and see if they would fix the problem for you. Take Care!! Michael

Thanks, I E-mailed Randall Knives and I'll try to post what they say. If they do want to fix it, I may have them add a brass hilt & butt cap.
