There have been several really great review of some "fighting" bowies of late. Anyone have opinions on the Randall No.12's or 13's as fighting blades (the 9, 11, & 12" models)? How might they compare with say the Ontario Hells Belles?

If you like a large knife and have the arm for it, I think they would work fine. I also think they are larger than most of us would carry on a regular basis. A six inch blade is more convenient and easier to use for other things. If you want a large knife to practice with, with no real intention of actually hauling it around, buy a Randall. You will never have to sell it for a loss.

I have a custom Model #12 with a modified #14-#1 grind on it with California Maple Burl-marbelized #1 style handle and a butt cap weighted to balance out the blade...It is much faster than it looks and it cuts really well.
No I don't carry it around.
As for the Belle? Well A Bagwell moves differently than a Randall..I whip a Belle around, I slash with my Randall....
I can sell the RANDALL in a heart beat if I wanted too..Randalls may grow old but they increase in value!
I wanted a cut n thrust set so theres a matching Model #2-8 dagger to go with it. I liked the shape beter than a straight Arkansas toothpick.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't looking for one (or more) of these big knives to actually carry on a regular basis. More for the occational excursion into the bushes and praticing with a big blade. I've got several of the "smaller" Randalls and like them mucho. The larger models look great but I wondered about how they handled. Maybe I'm out of step with the times but I prefer the "older" styles and materials to the latest SS, chrome plating, g-10, and kydex.

I too would love someone to do a review of a Randall.

I always hear great things about them from owners, but really never any of the specifics.

Regarding carrying big blades, I don't except out in the woods. But I know several who do. It's amazing how they can do it so inconspiciously.
