It looks like I'm going to have the opportunity to participate in an abbreviated three day "Downed Pilot Jungle Survival Training Course" being run by Mike Perrin and Jeff Randall of Randall's Adventure and Training. The course is being run at their jungle property near Iquitos in Peru next week. This is a "private" course being organised and paid for by the company I work for.

The itinerary includes:

-jungle survival gear
-dangers of the jungle
-machete use
-travel through the jungle
-water procurement
-shelter construction
-fire building
-rescue signalling

This should be a great time, and a great opportunity to practice some of the basic skills that are getting a bit rusty after sitting behind a desk for the past year.

I'll be sure to take lots of photos!!

Has anyone else taken this course?

In Peru I've only got my Busse BATAC LE, Cultellus, Active Duty, Spyderco Paramilitary, Large Reg Sebenza, and Leatherman, and a cheap Colombian made machete. I'll probably bring the BATAC, Paramilitary, Leatherman, and machete.

That's what i want to know!

What kind of work do you do?

I'm a geophysicist working mineral exploration. I spend a lot of time in small aircraft; both fixed wing and helicopters. We have a job coming up next month which will put our aircraft in some extremely remote parts of the Amazon, everyday, eight plus hours a day, for over six months.

A competitor had a crash last month in Guyana, unfortunately this sort of thing is far too common. Preparing the operations personnel in jungle survival makes a lot of sense.

You lucky dog! The only course I've ever gotten to go throuhg was the SERE course when I was in the Marine Corps. Your gonna have a blast.

mcrob,

for your luck in your work, and having your company pay for this course, and being able to take the course...

Seriously, have a great time! Jeff and Mike are two of my favorite people. They are genuine in every way, and very skilled at what they do. You will have a blast!
