I really like the construction of my ZT 0301, G10 and liner on one side and Titanium frame lock on the other.

The SG2 Leek thread got me thinking that I'd like to see some other Kershaws put together that way and was curious to see what one might look like.

So, using three different Leeks I put this together. Of course the frame lock side isn't 3D machined Titanium, but I think you get the idea.

I think it came out looking pretty good (feels good in the hand too). It would be even better if the grooves were machined into the lock side. The only real issue with putting this together (besides having to buy three knives, but I'm sure Thomas would think that a non-issue ;) ) is the screw lengths. The screws from the frame lock Leeks are a bit too short and the ones from the G10 Leek are too long. I probably won't leave this together (unless I get another Random Leek and another set of appropriately sized screws).

Opinion?

Edit: OK, due to many comments about preference for a plain edge, I thought I'd add this photo.

2nd Edit: BTW, here are the specs for the knife as it is assembled in the photos.

Blade Steel: S30V stainless-steel, chromium nitride coated.

Blade Shape: modified tanto with combo edge (plain edge versions of the Random leek have not shipped yet, as far as I know.)

Handle: 410 stainless-steel, tungsten DLC coated (Frame-Lock side). 3-D Machined Black G-10 Scale.

Blade Length: 3 in. (7.5 cm)

Closed Length: 4 in. (10.3 cm)

Overall Length: 7 in. (17.8 cm)

The three donor knives used to assemble it were, the 1660TGRYST (blade), 1660T1G10 (G-10 scale and steel liner), and 1660CKTST (black tungsten DLC coated frame-lock).

Very nice indeed!! Now if it was only a plain edge (sorry wanted to be the first to say that).;)

It took me long enough to get the three knives to put it together as it is. :)
I definitely would have liked a plain edge first too.

Why did you ship with the combo edge first? The plain edges seem to be more popular.

I do like serrated edges on some blades though.

The combo edge was not my first choice, but I didn't put up much of a fight though.

How is the piece functioning?

You could get a fortune for that on Ebay. Just imagine the story you could come up with for the description.:D

It is working pretty well. Opens smoothly, lock engages solidly. The only real issue is the blade is almost touching the liner on the G10 side. I'm afraid to tighten the three handle screws down much since they don't engage much thread. Not sure if that would make a difference though.
Like I said, it feels great in the hand. I think those grooved G10 scales are the best feeling ones of the G10 leeks.

I imagine they would have fun with that Ebay description in Bernard's forum. Just need to figure out how to work the words "Civil War Era" in.

Thanks alot. Now I'm gonna be here all day taking apart
9 different leeks to see what fit's where. argh!

That's the fun thing about Leeks. If you own many different models you can mix and match to come up with something that suits your taste. As far as my TiZDP, I think I'll leave it as is..........for now. :D

thats awsome kneedeep. i dunno what thomas thinks about this but maybe Kershaw could send you the right screws for it? that would be ultra generous and cool.

Thanks offsetlover, I suppose if I had the right size screws (or an extra set of longer ones I could cut down) I would keep the knife set up the way it is.

In this form it really makes me think of the Random Task. Although I guess I could make it much closer to a Random Task by putting the Random Leek Blade in my polished G10 Leek's handles.

Say, Thomas isn't the 10th anniversary of the Random Task coming up? Seems like a great opportunity to do up a sprint run updated Random Task.

your welcome.

10th anniversary of the random task huh? that would be interesting to see done.

Of course Thomas has got me wanting to get the plain edge Random Leek so I can put it in this handle instead of the combo edge. I think it would improve the looks/line of the knife dramatically.

It sure would! But the knife that you created is still real neat since I was never aware of how lego-like Kershaws are. Keep up the great work!

One of the great things about the way this knife is set up is that it can make the people that hate liner locks happy as well as the people that really want a G10 handle.

I'd love to see what this knife would look like with a two color G10 handle. Something low key first, like olive and black. The regular grooves on this handle should give it a nice, subtle striped pattern. Not sure which would look better though, black peaks with olive troughs, or olive peaks with black troughs.
Next thing to try would be something loud, like yellow, international orange, or red and black.

KD,
That's very cool. You did a great job w/ it. I'm another one who'd prefer PE, tho.

But since you kind of started the subject, what do you guys think if KAI started a custom knife building service kind of like Buck does.

It'd be cool to be able to choose your steel, grip style etc for a Leek.

What other knife would be a good choice? Only one knife to make it easier for KAI to handle logistically.

Ok, so I saw this thread before I read the 'interchaneable Groove' thread. But I still like the idea.

Well, obviously the Groove, (as you've seen :D) and I would think from their popularity either the JYD or JYD II.

that would be the best im my opinion. what about blue and black or blue and gold? or Scarlet and Grey :D?

I wonder what colors of two or three layer sheets of G10 are readily available without Kershaw having to special order a huge quantity? Thomas, Tim, Craig, any idea?

yeah that would be interesting to know. if the have colors we like we can combine our Force powers and make, i mean convince, Thomas and crew to make it that way. I know I would buy a Scarlet and grey Lahar because one, it would look great, and two it would tick off Michigan fans!
