Nice GAW I'm in. You should post a sketch of what you have in mind for your spike. Titanium is a nice choice btw.
 
I'm glad this is getting such a positive turnout! I started on the shank/spike thing today and I think it's going to be pretty cool. It's just a long Titanium rod that I'm going to make very, very pointy as well as put a bunch of circular grooves on part of the handle for some grip. I'll get some pics of the progress and post them tomorrow in the OP.
