My friend Brian and I did a little hiking this weekend and we brought a few knives!:D

Brian-This guy is about the funniest guy on the planet. I wish he was on SNL. He likes his knives and guns. I wish he would post here but I know he would be kicked off the first day. He is the kind of clown that can hike up Mt. Whitney in a day, with very little prep. He is also a great photographer.

Talk about extreme differences with his knives. If anyone knows anything about this old Schrade, feel free to chime in.

It`s nice to see one of my knives being "loved" as much as Brian`s. I remember talking to him on the phone when he ordered it, he is a funny guy! Is that the Hiker`s Backup that got sent to the Special Forces guy in Afganistan? And lastly, what is he doing to that chunk of wood

Brian loves it so much he tried to chop a rock. The dings are almost all out. He has a good variety of knives. He wanted a knife with character that he can pass on to his son so ordered a Kephart. He only has a doughter now but he is working on the son thing!

That is the Hiker John. I got a few shots of it before it went away.

I have a Schrade that looks just like that one in style, but in much worse condition. It was my grandpa's, and I have no idea how old it is. I never knew him to be a knife collector, so it could be 40-50 years old. Perhaps it is time to do a bit of research.

I found this on the interweb.
"Schrade H-15

Often mistaken for a "Pilot Survival Knife" the Schrade H-15 was first manufactured in 1959, with a suggested retail price of $1.25. It was strictly aimed at the commercial market of the times. It was a commercial success as it continued to be manufactured until 1975, when it retailed for $7.50 at your local hardware store. It was called the "Utility Hunter", aimed at hunters, campers, scouts or the general outdoorsman who spent weekends in the boonies. The blade was made from high carbon cutlery steel, many are found today rather pitted but most are excellent plus condition owing to the fact they were probably put in a drawer and forgotten. I have observed them with brown plastic spacers and red plastic spacers near the guard and pommel. Half guards were the norm for them and I have also seen them installed upside down. Pommels were pinned in place and made from aluminum. Anyway it’s not military."

Bear, what is the knife model just above the keppy called?

I call it the Tactical Field Knife. It`s 3/16" thick with around a 6" long blade, with contoured handles. It`s a newer model of mine. Here is another pic of it with my .45 for comparison.

Hmmmm, I see one in my future with black spacers and oak handle to match my beloved keppy.

Speaking of Keppys, I`m finally getting around to making one for myself. As for the Field Knife, I`m hoping it becomes popular. That one is the only one in existance.

protourist thanks for the info!:)

It's my friends, his dad gave it to him!

Great pics..I like that TOPS blade

That is also Brians blade, he goes all over the map with his knives.

The patina is fantastic. As is the red-handled knife. Bushcraft model? Looks really useful.

The Bushcrafter JK makes is my favorite. While out hiking with my friend brian I asked him what size hand he thinks he has. He said, Large, and then I handed him the Bushcrafter to see if it fits a large mitt. He said, "wow this feels good."

In hand, it is big enough for a work glove on a small grizzly bear!

Based on the first picture - I think you need to let him know that he's doing it wrong :D

Nice pictures and great knives. I do like that patina. There has to be some kind of story behind how the pattern came out like that!

He used mustard first but it didn't work for him so he rubbed it off. Then it went into his kitchen cutting everything. He said it cuts lots of vegetables and fruits.

This is a regular accurance on hikes.
