During batoning I have noticed that, at least for me, a false edge would not be the best of options. It is hard on the baton used and may cause it to crack propeling fragments even to the user's eyes
. Here is the beauty of this ingenious blade tip formation introduced by Jerry Busse called the "Penetrator Tip": this is actually a relief of the tip only, meaning it leaves all the spine of the knife intact
. One can literally go through a diamond steel plate easily with a tip like this
