looking at getting either the mini Random Task or the Mini-Stryker..which would you pick and why? merits or pitfalls? i appreciate any opinions on this one. they both seem to have good abilities; mostly a working knife with capability for some serious cutting. any feedback from you fellow knifeknuts??

I have a mini-task, and it is quite small. You can't beat the Speed-Safe opening for "cool factor." However, I wouldn't feel comfortable working it really hard (that's why I carry a Spyderco Wegner also). The mini-striker is a little larger, and most people really like it. I think these knives are too diffrent. My best advice is buy one, then buy the other later. I chose my Mini-task becasue of the Speed-Safe, it added something new to my "collection" of knives.

p.s. let us know which one you decide to get!

I would buy Random Task. There are two reasons for this:

CPM440V blade is better steel than ATS-34. Both have too large angle at first (over 20 degrees per side) and reshaping 440V is harder task than reshaping ATS-34 but you only have to do it once.

I like sheepsfoot/wharncliffe blade design in RT but don't like 'american'tanto in Stryker. RT has even some belly that may be useful in some circumstances

One thing that should be considered if this will be your hard working knife is that RTs handles are polished and thus more slippery. Ergonomics are still good (for me). I haven't done any serious cutting with RT yet and I have only handled once mini-stryker.

You should consider also where you are going to use this knife. Opening RT is so fast that some may think that you are using auto(and the opening sound is about the same too). On the other hand Stryker looks pretty darn threatening compared to RT

BTW You will love the speed safe. I'm playing with my mini T right now... Flock! Ooooohhhh! AaaahhhhhH! Flock! OooohhhhhhH!

Get a full size Stryker. I have 3 of them and I like them alot. I use one with a plain silver blade for everyday tasks and have no qualms about doing anything with it.

Kelt,

I moved from carrying the mini stryker to now carrying either my Random Task (not the mini) or the Richochet. Both have speed safe. If you need precise cutting--go with the RT. If you need more belly, go with the Ricochet. The 440v, in my opinion, is far superior to the ATS-34. I've even taken off the clips off the RT and made a leather belt sheath (actually works better than clipping to inside of waistband!--at least you don't gouge your belly when you bend over). The mini stryker is a nice knife, and it would be a lot better if the blade were something else other than ATS-34!

I would get the full-sized Stryker, in M2.
Having used both 440V and M2, I would prefer M2.
