"Rickey Henderson does not agree. Rickey Henderson refers to Rickey Henderson in a conversation as Rickey Henderson. Rickey Henderson don't need no stinkin' pronouns."

He doesn't need to use his last name either.

When you're taking baseball, all you need to say is "Rickey" to know who you're talking about. As a lead off hitter/base stealer, Rickey was the GOAT!

This biography of his life (which was just published in June) is on my list of books to buy.

Well, Branch Rickey was a pretty important name in baseball history...not to take away from Rickey's accomplishments.

So, I'm not prepared to go all "Madonna" over him despite being a fan of what he did in the game.

Yes, Branch Rickey was very important in baseball history was but just saying "Rickey" won't bring him to mind unless you also say "Jackie."

Maybe if you say "Branch" you'd think of him but ONLY if you're old enough to remember "Jackie" (when he played or was still in the public eye) or, if you saw the recent movie "42" in which Harrison Ford played him.

But whether you agree or not, if you mention "Rickey" to any serious baseball fan, I don't think they'd have a hard time figuring out you're talking about Rickey Henderson.

I reserve such for "Mickey". #7 was my guy growing up back in the day. (Of course, he wasn't the person I thought he was back then.)

And so it goes...

Willie #24 was BETTER than Mickey but, before you get pushed out of shape, I have Hartland statutes and other memorabilia of both in my house.

LOL! ;)

And, since we're on this track, here's an initial list of 1 name baseball players in history from various generations (both famous and infamous and in no particular order, except the 1st) that any baseball "fan" should know/remember:

Willie, Mickey, Jackie, Yogi, Whitey, Joe, Babe, Hank, Ty, Satchel, Pete, Rickey, Barry, Juan, Sandy, Maury, Ernie, Harmon, Warren, (Willie) Mac, Orlando, Gaylord, Nellie, Stan, Don, Gil, Jose, Mark, Junior, Kirby, Jeter, Alex, Albert, Sammy, Lou, Cal, Frank, Eddie, Mel, Reggie, Duke . . .

There are too many Dodgers and Yankees on the list. But it is what it is. There are many more 1st name players that I could list. There are also a couple of 1st names that can be associated w/at least 2 players. Any answer associated w/a well known (& probably a HOF) player is correct.

Feel free to add any that you like. :)
