OMG!!! WTF???

Guess that's what you get for putting a really heavy long bed camper in a short bed truck, even on (what looks like) a dually. You can see how the frame pivoted exactly where you'd expect it to bend given the amount of overhang beyond the end of the bed.

I hope his policy covered "operator error" (aka "stupidity") Oh well . . .🤷‍♂️

A total loss, I assume. I hope his policy covered "operator error" (aka "stupidity") Oh well . . .🤷‍♂️
Based on this, seems he was mistaken about the payload capacity of his particular configuration

Are you as annoyed as I am by those noisy "modern" gas pumps that are broadcasting irrelevant news/info and/or trying to sell you something?

We'll, did you know that there's a MUTE button?

This is where it is on the pumps at my gas station but, if it doesn't work for you, just try another button. One of them should do it. :)

Be careful Sgt about pressing those random button patterns. A top right, bottom left, top left pattern will automatically make a $100 charge on your CC and give a voluntary donation to the EV Environmental Impact Study Foundation in your name. 🤣

Having a teenager .... it's impressive to me how they can walk out.... see a tire low on air and decide that will not be a factor in a vehicles operation....

So I decided today to use some old home depot gift cards and pick up a cordless inflator

And i will say, this thing is awesome couldn't believe how quickly it filled the tire so I could pull the screw and patch it!

This gets a thumbs up from me
Anytime I drive I have a Milwaukee cordless inflater, Slime, and plug kit in the vehicle. Those little pumps are pretty amazing and fast.

I'm surprised that a portable battery operated tire inflator would have enough power to do that.

How much did it cost and what size tire did you inflate w/it?

FWIW, I've got 3 other options, 2 portable & 1 not.

I've got a 12 gallon Craftsman air compressor in the garage and I've got 2 10# CO2 PowerTanks and a ViAir 300P SXS portable air compressor and a bunch of other stuff to use to inflate/deflate/fix tires that I acquired when I was actively off-roading.

So, I don't really need one because I've got a lot of other options but I'm always looking for new tools/gadgets to buy, if they can be useful. ;)

I'll keep a look out but it hasn't happened yet. It just turned off the F*CKING sound when I pushed the button. ;)

The truck may have had enough load capacity to carry that camper but, in this case, I think the problem was the load distribution which put most of the weight hanging way off the back of the rear axle causing the frame to bend. NO way the mfg or dealer should be required to pay for the damage IMO.

FWIW, I've got a 2002 F250 single rear wheel longbed that's only got a load capacity of about 2500#. I overloaded it w/a long bed Lance camper weighing about 4500 (unloaded) for awhile but I added a pair of Helliwig helper springs and air bags to the rear suspension.

I could still tell that the truck didn't like all that weight back there but at least I didn't bend the frame or cause any other damage (that I know of) doing it.

LOL! ;)

Very cool. Took me 3 iterations to find one that can be used on 60+ psi trailer tires. Now I use a Black&Decker that is not cordless but can be attached to a cigarette lighter. Indispensable on long trips, part of our emergency luggage, with chains, etc.
One thing to consider is to look at the current draw of the device, and the rated output of the cigarette lighter in the vehicle.

For occasional/emergency use, I can fully recommend the Sylvania Rapid tire inflator. It's really compact and surprisingly fast (almost as fast, but smaller and quieter than my Viair 88p). I've aired tires to 65psi with it, but I can't find the specs on the maximum psi it can handle.

Regarding the first paragraph though; the Sylvania Rapid lists a maximum draw of 180w and the Toyota's CLA is rated at 120w, so I also bought a cheap battery clamp extension. 12' extension with a cigarette lighter socket, that clamps to the battery terminals (and has a 30A fuse), and plug the inflator into that.

Over a decade ago, before I got the Viair 88p, the Sylvania Rapid (and a MaxiTrac 300LPM from NAPA. For airing up SUV tires, THIS thing is unbeatable. It's SO fast, and 1/2 to 1/5 the price of the competition), I just had the pump from the all-in-one Slime kit. Super slow, and really loud, but it worked. Lent it to someone who had a flat, and it popped the CLA fuse in their little car.

😂😂😂 He’s been getting dragged through the ringer on Cummins Forum. Been pretty damn comical. But yeah, way over payload, and Baja Mexico/California roads are not exactly the greatest for doing 50/60mph in anything other then a buggy or side by side.

This reminds me of a bit of "schadenfruede" that I enjoyed more than a few decades ago after I divorced my ex.

Heard-tell that the engine in my ex's car at the time (an old Mitsubishi SUV) seized because she (and my useless POS son who also drove the car) failed to check/change the oil in the car.

I took care of all of the car maintenance when we were married. Oh well . . . LOL! ;)

Sounds like the frame was acting as a single leaf "spring" on those bumpy roads and finally the spring broke.

Even unloaded, no way he should have been driving those roads (I've driven them) at those speeds. With a stiff truck suspension and probably over 5k# in the back, that must have been a hairy ride. Why he didn't slow down can only be explained by 1 thing -- studpidity.

Despite that, if he's got comprehensive coverage, his insurance "should" cover it because it's normally considered "no fault" coverage but I'm sure the insurance company's lawyers and claims adjusters and going over the fine print with a fine tooth comb to deny the coverage if they can.

IMO, if you do stupid sh*t, you should take responsibility and suffer the consequences yourself but I'd have no problem if he can stick his insurer w/the bill but there will be consequences if that happens too. ;)

I picked it up for 179 from home depot

It inflated the tire on a 2011 impala from completely flat to inflated in about 35/40 seconds

Just set the inflator to desired tire pressure... let the pump do its work and done!
