Random Thought Thread

A 15 YO Mac still running is quite a feat! Let me clarify: they are (or rather were) built to last but the constant OS updates are supposed to do them in after ~ 7 years because Apple realizes that if they do not render them less capable via OS updates, the darn things tend to keep going! So I am wondering if you are still running it on some older OS and if so, which one?
I’m pretty sure my 2013 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM/512GB SSD is running Mac OS Big Sur version 11.7.2 (there is a 11.7.3 update just came out I haven’t run).

I’m running Mac OS Monterey 12.6.3 on the 32GB/2TB iMac.

I figured out a way to identify all the files that were the same except for capitalization. I got a 16 TB Seagate Drive, hooked it up to USB, formatted as case insensitive, and used carbon copy cloner to clone the case sensitive 8TB drive over to the case insensitive drive.

Then I looked at the error log and identified approximately 150 files that were affected out of the 27,000. I went into iTunes music app and corrected the case of all the ripped music to match how old purchased music was spelled, and iTunes renamed, and moved the files or folders, and got rid of the duplicate artists or albums or songs.

I am now in the process of cloning the 8TB drive onto the 16TB again, which should leave me with a 16 TB case insensitive drive that has no file name conflict errors. I can make that my primary iTunes Drive.

If the post comes from the WTB sub forum, you can’t. For some reason the BladeForums software doesn’t autocorrect it to include the blue box in that sub when quoting it. You did nothing wrong, it is what it is.
The reason is that only Gold members and above can read and respond to "want to buy" ads. "Registered" and "Basic" members cannot sell on the site and therefore cannot read and reply to "want to buy" ads.

If they want to sell, they must upgrade their membership at which point they will have that privilege. (Spark sets the permissions for each class of membership.)

This is the reason why different categories of posts in the Exchange are routed to different areas. The membership / permissions required vary.

"Basic" members can put up items for trade, (whereas "Registered" members cannot). Anyone can post a "Want to Buy" but only Gold and above can reply.

Hope that clarifies things some.

He talking about when you “quote” another post, how do you make it look/appear as a “blue boxed” quote vs just a line of “blue quoted text”.

Example:
When you quote a post from the CKP for sale thread, it will appear in a Blue Box direct link.
When you quote a post from the WTB thread, it will appear as a line of Blue Text direct link.

The software dictates that predicated upon the reasons above. Anyone can buy, but only some folks can see and reply to the "want ad". The software attempts to inhibit circumvention of the forum rules and guidelines. It's a way of "classifying" info. At least that's the way I see it.

If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time.

Excellent explanation, that makes perfect sense.
