Random Thought Thread

How long will it be before we either see Nathan on one of the group therapy commercials...or see the aftermath of his ire?

My $0.02, if a maker has their own Exchange subforum, it would make more sense to allow B/S/T anything from that maker there, as it keeps it all in one place.

ETA: Looks like the post that I was sorta responding to was removed...sorry for the lack of context.

The reason we can't do that is because different membership levels come with different posting privileges in the exchange. (I'll send yet another PM to Spark about this...)

As explained in the past: Only Gold and above can sell
Anyone can post a WTB, but only those who can sell, (gold and above), can read them or reply. (Anyone can read their own.)
Trading requires at least a "Basic" membership.

This is why not everything can be lumped together in one thread, and why the old buy-sell-trade thread was discontinued.

I don't make those rules, those are Spark's rules as the site owner...and it protects his financial investment.

So, if you post a "Want to Buy" a CPK of one sort or another in the Carothers Knives For Sale thread, then anyone can respond in that thread at any level of membership, even non-paying "registered" members, and the system is bypassed, and Spark loses potential monetary support to keep the site afloat...

And that's why that thread is for "selling" only...because you have to have a gold membership or above to post a knife for sale...and the people responding in the "CPK For Sale" thread are supposed to be only potential buyers...not traders or sellers.

Understood. Wonder if there's a way to have separate WTB and WTT sections within the maker's Exchange sub, so that restrictions can be applied? In any case, I still think you should at least be able to post anything from the maker (knives, scales, sheaths, etc) for sale within their sub to help consolidate.

Whilst browsing the Interwebs headlines while sipping on my morning coffee, I came across the weird pics of someone wearing a single feather across they/their/them (please feel free to add/correct in case I'm not up to speed with modern pronouns!) breasts at some after Oscars party! NSFW or family oriented forums: dare not post in here photos of and DO NOT search Hunter Schafer at workplace! In any case, this' "that's a dude" mentality has now been firmly planted in my own head. I did not spit out the coffee but TBH, I almost did and I reckon that I am far more liberal than most of youse in here! Must be getting way too old for this chit!

It's hard enough to get a hold of Spark to make changes to the site, but I'm going to ask him if we can accommodate the "selling" of CPK related scales / gear in that thread. (Not WTB but selling / trading...as the system "should" only allow Gold or higher to start a thread there.)

I'll reach out now and hopefully I'll get a reply from him before my next birthday.

I'll report back once I do hear from him.

Some people must just really need attention... good grief

Okay guys, I've contacted Spark for clarification on two points:

1. Whether he will open the CPK "Knives For Sale" area for any CPK related commerce...

2. Whether he will allow Gold members and above to SELL any CPK related merchandise within the CPK "Knives for Sale" area.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for #1...but anything is possible if Kevin says okay.

I think #2 might be more likely, but I will not speak for the HPIC.

You'll know when I know.

My apologies to those of you who think it's simply a matter of me being a nozzle.

Okay, I was able to get Kevin on the phone to discuss this CPK specific exchange business and here is what he's okay with, which will make things a bit easier in several regards:

Gold members and above can post threads in the designated CPK "Knives For Sale" area to sell any of their CPK gear...knives, sheathes, CPK specific accessories etc.

Gold members and above can post threads and offer to trade any of their CPK knives and CPK specific gear in the designated CPK sale area.

"Want To Buy" threads must continue to be posted in the applicable generic areas of the Exchange, (WTB: "Knives", or "Gadgets & Gear"), because members below the Gold membership level do not have selling privileges on bladeforums and must upgrade before they can do so. (This is why they cannot read nor respond to WTB postings without the commensurate membership.)

I think this will make everything a bit easier for most of our CPK family...(outside of WTB threads), and Spark has given his blessing.

Hope that works for you.

ETA: Oh yeah, I forgot to add...Spark said that he has no plans to create CPK specific WTB, WTT etc sub-forums because the numbers don't support the creation of such. So, I asked and he answered.
