Astigmatism could play into what color works better for you between red/ green
I have a bit of uncorrected astigmatism. (I get some starring effect on my (2 MOA) Aimpoint H2 on my AR.) But it's not enough to make a difference in the utility or shot placement.

As for colors, I see green very brightly on aftermarket sights, probably brighter than orange or red under many or most conditions. (I'm talking aftermarket front sights from Trijicon or Ameriglo.) The primary reason I go with day-glo orange over green is that I feel that the front sight is less likely to blend in with the clothing worn by an assailant in a self-defense scenario. (Of course I am not referring to illuminated sights in this regard.)

Tom Givens did a write-up in the last year or two on pistol sights where his conclusion was the same. (Tom, imho, is one of the best sources of good information out there, and he keeps copious records regarding defensive shootings.)
