Random Q:

Life Below Zero on National Geographic or Mountain Men on Discovery?

For me, it has to be MM because:

A- it's currently on (new episode tonight)
B- I find the characters more interesting
C- diverse & different challenges in each locale
D- some of the characters on LBZ seem dodgy / shady

E- I like snacking on pineapples, fresh or dry, it doesn't matter :D

I agree. I watch Life Below Zero, but the characters are kind of weird. No, very weird. Maybe extremely weird. I guess you have to be weird to live like they do.
I wonder about the camera crews though. Are they weird too?

It took me a little while to like Eustace on MM, but he grows on you.

Thank you all for your wishes regarding my new addition. Both baby and mum are home now and all is well.
I now have to add another knife into edc rotation so that once I'm gone they all get one they remember me using!
Or maybe this is just an excuse to buy another knife!:)

Congrats. It won't be long before you forget what sleeping all night was like. ;)

You wanna know what's more weird, in case you didn't know? That lanky Glen dude has a wife and family who lives with him!!! However the show is edited in such a way that one would think he lives out in the wild all by himself. Apparently when he was once asked as to why he didn't own a dog for protection / companionship, he had said (in a blog) that he preferred crawling up next to a woman at nights as opposed to a dog and also he found dogs to be a handicap for him.

I respect the man's opinion and his wishes for his family life to remain private but still it is very misleading portraying him as a solo & lonesome type, out there in an extremely harsh and hostile environment!

Dang! I'm crushed. :( The next thing you're going to tell me is that Bear Grylls stays in a hotel instead of sleeping outdoors.

I've been wanting to watch The Last Alaskans. At least I think that's the title. Rich ruins MM for me. Don't know if he's still on there tho.

I haven't watched the show in some years. Was Rich the guy with dogs that let one ride on the hood?

If so, I concur with your opinion of him.

Yes, that was Rich Lewis who has now been replace by Jake, whose last name I do not remember :)

Not sure I saw that episode, but ya I think so. For me, it was just that I was familiar enough with what was supposedly going on to think nope...nope...nope...

IIRC, Rich put a piece of carpet on the hood and it wasn't like he was driving 65MPH. The dog seemed to like it.

It wasn't just that. He drove slow enough so it wasn't like the dog was in too much danger. I think it was more I found his personality disagreeable.

Ya same here. I just checked out a youtube clip, and ya he's rigging off the hood. I'd throw a piece of carpet up there for Fido, and I prefer a strike rail myself, but other than that I'd have little worry with a tough and experienced dog which that one looks to be. I'll quit now as I can go into hound-doggin ad nauseum!

Yeah, one old bear hunter I knew had the hood of his Suburban covered with outdoor carpet, to give his strike dogs a bit more grip. But later he put a receiver hitch on the front, with a carpet covered platform that was about a foot off of the ground, to get his strike dog closer to the ground, and completely in front of the engine and truck smells.
