Random Thought Thread

I was on a movie binge last night just by flipping channels:

Escape from Alcatraz (poor man's Shawshank although an older flick than Shawshank) and then The Ghost Writer. Both worthy of filling up an old fart's Saturday eve :D

That movie sucked balls. Another Hollywood hack job on a truly amazing story.
I am getting mixed signals, but

oh, Decraprio. It's impossible to take you seriously...

I watched suicide squad a few weeks ago, and can't decide whether I hated it or wonder woman more. They were both two of the worst movies I've ever seen, zero redeeming value

I rarely watch these "cartoonish" superhero movies anymore, and never go to the theaters any more to pay to watch 'em! If I'm totally bored outta my head and there on paid cable channels when I want to have a totally mindless eve and some beers / wine, then maybe if the reviews are good. That said, I really didn't see what all the hoopla was about the new Wonder Woman!!! I didn't hate it, but I feel that I wasted like 2 hours of my life watching that. Suicide Squad was just awful even with the super annoying Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) being cutesy et al!

Must've been watching it with the kids!

I like dark / stout beer; Guinness, Newcastle Brown & Modelo Negra are the brands which I usually reach out for. I even tried to watch it all beer'd up and even then I got annoyed!

Something for Nathan which I think will validate his POV:

When I was researching 1911 models on YT, someone on those video lists of like: Best 3, Best 5, Best 10 sorta commentary had recommended some 1911 in 9mm caliber and I found this quote by a YT'er ever so Nathanish:

" A 1911 calibered in 9MM is like putting pineapple on pizza" :D

I'm sure that you know what opinions are. ;) IMHO, there is nothing wrong with 9mm in a 1911. Some of the new 9mm bullets are very effective and pass the FBI requirements within problem.

I had a Les Baer 1911 .45 for a bit over 10 years. I finally had to sell it. My wrist couldn't tolerate the recoil anymore. A guy I worked with has a S&W 1911. He has put 1000s of rounds through it with no problems. I have also seen many Springfield Armory 1911s that work just fine. I have also seen some uber-expensive 1911s that had many problems, not the least of which is dealing with temperamental gunsmiths. "It can't be my gun, you don't know how to shoot it."

The only 1911 non 45ACP I own is a race gun custom in 38 Super ... love the gun for it's use ... but 45ACP is by far still my favorite semi auto round and what all but a couple of my warm weather carry guns are.

The argument about calibers has probably been going on since the invention of forearms. People used to argue incessantly over .30-30 vs .32 Win. (Maybe they still do)

The simple fact it that the best gun is the one that you can shoot well. In reality, a hit with a .22 is infinitely better than a miss with a .45. (I'm sure that someone will argue that point.)

FBI statistics would concur. The number of fatalities from .22 LR is suprisingly high.

These days, the simple truth is that with the current state of hollowpoint/defensive ammo design, there is very little difference in terminal ballistics from 9mm up to .44 magnum. Hits on target are more important, which is why I prefer the higher capacity of the nines.

Wearing your 44 magnum or your large fixed blade dangling from your belt in an ornate and tasseled sheath or holster has always been cool standing the test of time. Kinda like flames on a tow truck.

Wear your neck knife over your shirt or without a shirt? You wannabe insecure poser; what a derp.

Monkey see monkey do

It's very true ... a gun you can't shoot well could be a Barret 50 Cal. and do you no good ...

that's why I don't try to tell anyone what to carry just practice with whatever your choice is.

And ballistics may be important to some and has some mermits for some circumstances ... but will never replace the gun you shoot well and can hit your target with.

I've been thinking about getting one of those compressed air rifles like a Benjamin Bulldog. They have .357 caliber pellets now...
