Random Thought Thread

I wasn't too concerned to begin with, but it's amazing what a little bit of toothpaste on a square of brawny will do.

Finally done with all of the tree work on the property...for now. (And a heap of medical and various insurance bills on top of it.) Feels good to be out from under all of that.

The eye test went pretty good yesterday as well. I'm not the 20/10 I once was, but she said 20/25 was still pretty good at my age and that I'd have no problem passing the DMV requirements without lenses.

I order a pair of glasses just for the hell of it anyway, as I could use them for reading on the Chromebook and iPhone, and they'd probably come in handy from time to time.

Said no macular degeneration, no issues with retina, glaucoma etc...but I had a hint of a cataract forming that she said could be ten years before I even noticed it.

So, not too bad, considering.

That’s really good news on your eye test 👍

I can’t even imagine the cleanup work involved and the loss of your trees. And now adding up the extra medical + insurance bills is stressful, I’m sorry.

But, I’m glad that you are finally getting caught up and are on the home stretch.

Have a nice Good Friday and Easter weekend too 🍻

Just want to give a tip for anyone needing glasses-
Try getting a pair from somewhere like zenni optical. They are 1/10th the price that the eye doctors charge for the same if not better quality/durability.
All you need is to put your prescription values in and choose the frames and lens types you want. Has saved me so much money since I tend to break a pair of glasses around once a year doing something stupid.
I eventually opted for a pair of Z87 impact resistant and they have been going for a couple years even after taking some hits.

Zenni Optical is OK quality. Compare them side by side with others and you will see the difference in the frames. Also, they tend to run narrow. I have 3 pairs from them and they are OK. I use them as house glasses and backups. Frames Direct is better quality, but the pricing is in between Zenni and optician pricing.

Getting accurate interpupillary measurements is critical, no matter who you order from. A tiny bit wrong can really strain your eyes.

Thanks, M.

Yeah, it hurt to see the property chewed up, but it was nothing compared to the people in nearby Swannanoa who lost everything...homes, property, lives. So, we're lucky that it only came down to some property damage, anxiety, stress, timing and money for the most part...none of which were too much to bear. There are so many more folks who have been truly devastated that we cannot complain and have not looked into FEMA or our homeowner insurance for potential financial solutions.

On the eyes, I was pleased. Since my dad was a diabetic and had retina and other eye issues, I was a little anxious beforehand.

I had looked into online eyeglass sites and thought I might order that way...before I went to this small, local facility. However, I was so impressed with the doctor and the staff, and the way I was treated that I wanted to support a small business / practice in our rural area by buying the glasses there.

So, I intentionally paid more than I might have otherwise...but they took the time to get everything right as far as finding something that really felt good, fit well and which I could compare right then and there to various other options. There's no way that I could have judged the fit and lightness of the pair I selected otherwise. Mileage will vary, of course, from one individual to another.

I don't mind the extra cost at all in this case.

Sometimes spending more is very much worth it.

Great customer service and knowledgable people are worth paying extra for most things, imho.
