We have the same problem too.

However……

We also have 1 higher end Grocery Store chain that has a different policy.

If an item rings up higher than the price posted on the shelf, and you bring it to the customer counter after paying, along with your receipt, once a CS person goes back and verifies it, you get a full refund and get to keep the item.

It’s totally free, and they thank you for bringing it to their attention.

Extremely low chance of any pricing mistakes there (but it does occasionally happen).

It’s a pleasure to shop there too. Good competitive prices, good selection, quality food, friendly full staff, most of all it’s clean too.

It's a malaphor.

It's a mix of "one man's trash is another man's treasure" and "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink".

It's funny. And also fucked up and wrong.
