Random Thought Thread

Here in Cincinnati those are called coneys, but you’ll need some finely shredded cheddar on top, and onion and mustard if you’re so inclined. We don’t blend all the ingredients into the chili. That would be wrong 🤣.

I’ve had coneys in Cincinnati. They’re good!

None of the stuff is blended here, btw - the mustard goes on first, followed by the hate onions, then the coating of whatever that slop is.

Those look very tasty, but my stomach is a bit worried, especially if the fries are included. I’d eat them, despite that. Hope that you thoroughly enjoyed them. And thank you for the history/food lesson.

I can’t believe we haven’t eaten at Zorba’s when you’ve been here. It’s right up the street from Antoinette’s Sweets, and we have to drive past both to get to the airport. Did we not go there, either????

Jsega51 Jsega51 that’s the best part of this delusion we’re under. Typical reptile-brain tribalism, where we elect to fight over what works out to be the exact same bullshit, only it’s OUR bullshit.

I almost never eat garbage like this, btw. I can of think this stuff is actually nutrient deficient, meaning consumption actually depletes your body of nutrients. 🤣

Gonna be sore in the morning. But had great day with my son.

I grew up on dirt bikes. Dad got me my first one when I turned 10. Always had one until I was 34 and we moved to Wilmington in 2001. I wasn’t interested in trailering somewhere to ride. Always had sport bikes until I had a bad accident in 89. I finally got another street bike around 2009 and at this time I have a Goldwing.

Anyway didnt mean to derail. When we would go out on our bikes we knew we would probably go down just hope we would be able to ride back without anything broken. Our motto was “You ain’t falling you ain’t riding hard enough”. As I got a little older I got a little wiser. Of course only gear we wore was helmets. Hope you and your kid had fun.

Nate's random thought for the day:

(I'm fully aware that I have probably had this random thought before, but I'm old now, I'm allowed to repeat myself)

A military base on the far side of the Moon would be almost impossible to strike. And you could launch shit off of the Moon in an opposite direction of the orbit of the Moon, at the velocity of the Moon, and that object would be stationary in space and it would fall to Earth in four or five days with an awesome amount of kinetic energy.

The base would have 24-hour sunlight for 2 weeks out of the month which would allow it to amass an enormous amount of solar energy, every month, and the low gravity environment would make handling heavy things much more manageable than here on Earth.

It's interesting to me how some of the world's powers seem to be very interested in revisiting the moon now.

Did you know that nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers are literally steamships?

They're not using nuclear energy to turn turbines to generate electric power to power large electric motors to turn prop shafts etc. Those prop shafts are literally directly steam driven. Somewhat similar in concept to coal powered steamships from a previous age.

I'm gonna re-watch Wild Wild West and think of how that could apply today.

Imagine a bunch of 10,000 cubic foot containers, with 1000 gallons of water in them, heated to 1000 deg by the sun (or nuclear heat), pressurized to 600 PSI steam pressure, launching big rocks at 4000 fps.

I tried real hard, but I've got no frame of reference. Evidently an Olympic diving pool holds 2500 cubic meters of water, so 4 of those? That heated to 1000 degrees sounds like a huge bomb.

2500 cubic meters is like 88,000 cubic ft.

So an olympic size swimming pool would be 8 units, capable of launching a Volkswagen into space

Edit: Volkswagens (plural)
