Had ackee and saltfish. But I don't consider it weird or strange. It was delicious.
Had to actually look up ackee. Interesting. It’s apparently banned in the US.
Tried a LOT of fruits that are common in Asia. While I’m not completely turned off by Durian, I’m not a fan. Jackfruit OTOH, is great! Guavas, lychee, rambutan, soursop, mangosteen, longan,
Lots of different types of mangoes (had no idea there were so many types, until traveling in Asia. It’s like apples. Lots of different ones. Thai elephant tusk mangoes are the favorite of the ones I’ve tried).
Same goes with bananas. Didn’t realize there are different types/varieties of bananas until traveling in Asia. There’s a variety in Malaysia called Pisang Emas (literally translates to Golden Banana IIRC), that’s the favorite of all the varieties I’ve tried. Smaller than the Chiquita bananas we see here, but very sweet and tasty.
*** of all the fruits I’ve ever tried, I think my all time favorite is Japanese Fuji apples. If you’ve only ever tried the Fuji apples commonly found in regular stores, you’re missing out. The genuine Fuji apples from Japan are AMAZING (and significantly bigger than the ones you see in regular grocery stores).
