Very true. I prefer to get my chocolate from Eataly or one of the many Swiss chocolatiers. I think some of it is north of $50/lb? It’s getting to where an ounce is the cost of a meal.
I’ll have to check Eataly out. Thanks!

And for anyone that might want to take a few more steps down the chocolate rabbit hole…
The book, “Wild Chocolate”, is very well researched and written.

Today I saw more and more clearly the path that a huge number of people are taking in the financial markets.

The average loss I’m observing among people is from –40% to –60% of their capital.

And this is happening on a rising market.
What exactly are they investing in that's losing 40-60%? Because anyone that's not into risky investments shouldn't be losing anything.

Guys, just stay the hell away from the markets.
My 401k is up. My stocks are up, most by a lot over the last year.

That's the whole point.
You most likely don't have risky assets.

A lot of people find this boring.

And they jump into tech stocks, something like startups, or even crypto, or Polymarket.

Into something that they believe could potentially give them a huge return.

And yeah, I'm also surprised by this.

And also — futures positions.
Like, making 10% in a year?
That’s not interesting to most people.
A lot of them go for leverage instead.
And then they get liquidated.

You don’t realize the level of gambling involved here.
A person does this, loses so much while being almost in a trance, because they literally understand nothing about it.
And then when they finally snap out of it,
they discover that in just a couple of days they’ve lost half of the family’s savings.

Risk vs reward...

You're right, its the same ones that have the gambling mentality to hit big. Sure, sometimes you win, but at the end, the house always rules when you play high odds.

I was totally happy with my portfolio, year end I was up over 8%. And that has been consistent for years with med to low risk options even when the stock market tanks, temporarily, they come back and finish above 8%.

That is for when I retire, or something really bad happens. I pretend its not even there... I started investing when I turned 21 years old and now at 44, a simple 8% return could be enough to live off of for a year of retirement. I just hope and pray I live long enough, or at least my kids will have something. When my folks passed, all I got was the bills to bury them and I don't ever want to do that to them. It sucked...
