Also remember that depleted Uranium penetrators in NATO munitions were replaced by tungsten after the first Gulf War. It's about time we started to mine for tungsten again here in the US. There are deposits in the western states.

From what I read, there are large amounts, but maybe not vast amounts. Plus we have to deal with EPA, OSHA, and other regulations. China and Kazakhstan do not not have to worry about much of those. At least we should be able to cover our defense needs, hopefully. Maybe.
