Random Thought Thread

Nate's controversial random thought of the day:

Sweetarts candy should not exist.
Firstly it’s two words, Sweet Tarts. Without Sweet Tarts, Chewy Seeet Tarts would not exist or any other great variation such as Chewy Fusions, and let us not forget the amazing Sweet Tart Ropes. So, in conclusion, you are mistaken. I rest my case.

Trust the science. Not necessarily the people interpreting the data.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as "the science" independent from those who interpret the data. The best we can do without getting a PhD and doing our own research to confirm everything we read is watch what the most credentialed scientists are saying about the data and wait for a consensus to develop. That consensus is our most accurate indicator of what the data say.

I thought "trust the science" was a phrase generally used mockingly/sarcastically in light of how un-scientifically minded the people were who were saying it a few years ago. It evokes a blind faith indistinguishable from religious zeal.

You are correct. The phraseology is actually an oxymoron because science advocates critical thinking therefore following the science will be a more appropriate form of the statement. The problem with following the science is that because of the colossal Dunning-Kruger effect in most people brought about generally by the Internet and particularly by AI these days, most common people are not remotely qualified to review, comprehend and then explain academically researched published peer sources.
