Random Thought Thread

It’s a character flaw that I have. I’d be dead from it in a week. Two weeks, tops. The first five days would be me being scared of it, and the next two would be me overcoming that fear when I really shouldn’t.

Also, I have very few friends that ride around here anymore, because the game has changed. Too many deer. Too many drunk or high drivers. Too many distracted drivers. Even if they’re being responsible, there are just too many factors running against them. Range of view in my area is extremely low. You’re just not going to be given enough time to react.

I get that. I have very little interest in road riding anymore, after a number of close calls over the years. My next bike will be a lightweight enduro that is just street legal enough to travel minimal distances on pavement until I can get on dirt backroads/trails. That’s far more versatile where I live.

Yeah .... Years ago, I remember riding my motorcycle at ~200 km/h with my (now) wife from Garmisch Partenkirchen to Munich one night, on an empty Autobahn. I saw these lights coming up in my mirror and tried to stay out of the way. A moment later I was passed by two cars driving what must have been ~300.

That's what these big BMWs are made for .... business travel (company ownership) at speed on the Autobahn. Not really for individual ownership or for Alaska, for sure.

We have a GL 450 ... nice tow vehicle (height adjustable suspension) and pretty safe in the snow. Lots of room for the puppies, etc.

On the Continental Divide:

However, the next Mercedes dealer is > 3h away from where we live now, so I have to do most maintenance myself. Fingers crossed it will keep going for a while.

The easiest car to maintain here appears to be a Toyota truck.

More than half the cars here are trucks. Very few electric vehicles; the range in the cold in winter is too limited. Then again, gas is cheaper than it was in CA :)
If you need any help with anything on the GL please reach out to me. And anyone else who has any questions about Mercedes Benz can also reach out. I’ve been working on MB vehicles for 25 plus years.
