This advice ought to be heeded seriously regarding any major essential product which uses petroleum as the major component in its manufacturing, never mind petroleum usage as secondary or lower down the chain vis a vis in the consumer staple sector. We may have to go back to the good old days when the tire shop hand named Bubba would just shave your tires in between their grooves to make them appear less used. Who in here remembers those dodgy practices? 🤣
‘Siping’ - “Oh, your tires are bald. Let’s make some cuts in them and make new treads”.

Retreading tires - “Hey, your tires are bald. We’ll just glue a strip of rubber on. Jus as gud…”

Yeah, the damage to the Shell Pearl, Bapco and Adnoc facilities go far beyond ‘gas/fuel availability’.

Those 3 facilities produced a lot of petrochemicals used in SO many things, from plastics to motor oil basestocks and additives, petrochemicals used in rubber production and processes…

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the petrochemicals used to make nitrile gloves 😕

Medical supplies distributors have already begun putting customers on allocations, and declining new customers (like what happened during Covid).

While the local facilities heeded my warnings to stock up on PPE prior to the Covid related allocations and shortages (since medical related folks tend to monitor medical related issues, like shortages from what looks like an impending global pandemic), they ignored the advice this time. “Haven’t heard anything about that”. “It’s not just that the Strait of Hormuz is still closed. Those 3 facilities are all STILL shutdown. The Shell Pearl GTL facility is rumored to need at least a year, maybe more to rebuild. The production from those facilities isn’t stalled, it’s GONE right now”. “Well, we haven’t heard anything about shortages from suppliers”. 🙄

*** if you use nitrile gloves, you might want to stock up on those while prices are still normal and availability is still there.

I bought a fancy carbon steel pan today. It's a small company, they're handmade and aside from a few monthly lottery-style sales, they have one online sale per year. From what I read on the internets they sell out pretty quickly.

I don't know how many of each style/piece they started with but they had about 8 different options available. I went into CPK mode. Got my watch calibrated to the exact time, ready to refresh the for sale page at 12 Central sharp and had my CC number on my clipboard.

They were all still available at like 12:10 and I think the option I went with was still available at 2:00. Lol. Buncha amateurs.

Congrats on the score.

There is a local blacksmith here that makes pans on occasion. They sell instantly.
I had the opportunity once, but I choked at the price. Still, they look like a great pan that will just get better with use and seasoning.

Yeah, once you’ve practiced for CPK sales, everything else is easy.

Had the same experience with another item. People were complaining, “Every time they release a new batch, they sell out before I can complete the transaction!”.

My first try, “Huh, that was easy. Those people must be amateurs” 😅

It was definitely more than I've ever spent on a pan by a decent margin but about the same as an edc from the factory so not bananas. Like you said, I expect it to get better with use and I intend on owning it for the rest of my life so it didn't have too much of a struggle justifying it. I really enjoy cooking and wanted something well made that someone put there hands to. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I agree with all of those sentiments, for what it's worth. I'll get there eventually as well, I imagine. I just haven't made it a priority yet. I do have a nice assortment of cast iron though.

Has anyone tried sanding a cast iron pan to a super smooth finish. I’m thinking about it, it’s supposed to be good
I haven't done that, but I bought a Stargazer that already does that. It's a nice, slick surface for cooking.

Although, nowadays I cook on the outdoor griddle more than inside. It's basically a big cast iron cooking surface.

Not intending to spread doom & gloom, but just trying to give my fellow CPK’ers a heads up;

Just heard from a major trucking company that their tire suppliers are beginning to see supply chain issues.

Tire prices are about to start spiking. Retailers haven’t seen it yet, but it will be coming soon.

If you’re thinking about getting a new set of tires, you’ll probably want to do it sooner, rather than later.

Alternatively, look up the price for a set of tires of your choice right now, and compare the prices again later this Summer/Fall.
Tires are already outrageously expensive, they never came back down after the last price “spike”! 🤬 :poop:  Glad I got my new 4Runner tires not too long ago.
