ICONOCLAST!

How can you say that? It can't be fake. It takes a lot of skill, training and physical conditioning to be able to bash each other with a metal chair and not hurt each other. On the other hand.....

This fight was disgusting to watch.
He actually lost this fight against Guillermo Jones, but he went 10 rounds with that nasty cut.
Lebedev is a frickin Manimal!

I just feel bad that you guys probably weren't exposed to British wrestling back in the day. Big Daddy and Giant haystacks were the best. Google either of them to check out British peak performance
Well, you'd be wrong about that. Yep, my dad managed to dig up British wrestling too. I do remember those 2, along with Tony (and Roy?) St. Clair, Kendo Nagasaki etc. :p

Grew up here in the Dallas area and went to the Sportatorium from the 70's until it finally fell apart and they closed/gentrified it. Von Erichs, Free Birds, Bruiser Brody, etc. A lot of the mid carders used our high school weight room and one of my best buddies lived next door to a jobber. He was the one that confirmed it was fake, he take all 4 of us (5A TX High School linebackers and running backs) out at the same time in the front yard but told us he "had to lose" for the first 2 years before he could start winning.

He got his butt kicked every Saturday night on local TV for years and never won a match, i.e. he was not the smartest guy in the room ;)

I loved it when Ric Flair would come through town every year or so and saw Kerry Von Erich beat him for the NWA title at Texas Stadium in the 80's.

At the risk of divulging my age, my grade school wrestling hero was Bruno Sammartino. Bruno, a native of Pittsburgh was famous for his powerful bear hug finishing move, and I believe was the longest reigning world heavyweight champion for the WWW Federation, which he held for 7 yrs, 8 mos.

During 5th & 6th grade my friends and I would stage mock wrestling matches and do our best to imitate the moves of our favorite wrestlers. That is when we discovered that the matches had to be fake because the moves really hurt. Take this finishing move as an example, the Boston Crab. It was a favorite of Randy Savage. This one could hurt like hell.

Great fun at the time !
I remember reading a news article way back when, about the dangers of trying out those wrestling moves. A dad and son decided to try it out, and figured it was safer to 'play' in the yard, because the lawn was 'softer', not realizing that the wrestling rings are specially built with sprung floors to absorb impact (they're kind of like large trampolines). Son picks dad up and bodyslams him on the front lawn. Hospital trip. Ruptured kidney. o_O
