Your 791 Elite with the 154 mod worked well. It arrived sharp and made easy work of the seasoned Willow.

The two 791 Range knives feel like different knives to me. The Elite has a heft and quality about it, visually and functionally. It was comfortable and natural to use in a variety of grips - NO hot spots, NOT slippery. I'm not a fan of metal handled knives but I had no issues with this one.

The first thing I noticed about the Pro was the texture = Excellent. In hand it is very comfortable and its lightweight surprised me.

Both knives impress me. Easy ambidextrous operation. Quality general purpose blade shape. Solid lockup. VERY smooth. Of the two the Pro is still my preference and is as perfect an EDC knife as I'm aware of - easy to carry, big enough to get the job done, high quality and reliable.

Awesome, Mo! Thanks for being game to try out the aluminum version. I ended up at the same conclusion you did: I’m not a fan of metal handled/bodied knives, but I can’t find anything about this one to take issue with other than my personal preference. Build quality and function are great.

I hadn’t thought about it in the way you worded it, but you’re right - they really do feel like two different knives.

A couple weeks ago I was able to take my buddy to the Buck store in Post Falls. I was able to handle all the sizes and handle materials. I didn’t buy one but I really liked the feel of the aluminum handles. I’m not someone who carries a knife clipped in my pocket but for just an everyday knife the smaller one seemed nice, albeit a bit small in the hand. If it were going to be used a lot for work or other tasks I’d have to go with the larger knife. I’m mostly a traditional knife guy but I think this is the best looking modern folder Buck has made. Maybe I’ll snag one in the future.

I might wait for a BotM edition. It’s only a matter of time.

I was very excited, anticipating the new Range Series, but then I saw the prices. So I passed on picking one up. An FRN handle with 420HC at a reasonable price would be an awesome BOTM or Stealth run. I would be good with orange and black.

Decided to let my Range Elite go. It’s a beautiful knife, and Buck did an amazing job with the whole package. But I finally had to come to the realization that I just don’t care for crossbar locks in general, even as well as this one was implemented. I recently unloaded a couple of Benchmades for the same reason, but I had to give this one a little more thought. I’ve got too many other nice knives that are probably never going to get used, so this one and a couple of others that I just haven’t connected with are on the block. My Sprint Pros will never go!

Hello Pro Range owners...

Quick question for textured GFN, is it a pocket shredder?

With the texture and not appearing to have a flat spot under the clip, is this rough inserting/removing from your pocket?

No, I don't believe it will be. The grip area is textured, but 'smooth'. The only problem I have is the clip will need adjustment to better clip onto my cargo pants .
I don't clip it on, but I keep the clip in place to use it as a grip area.

No. It is not a pocket shredder. I've been carrying the Range Pro since it was released. No issues at all with the pant materials.
