Momma and I went to the range yesterday, outdoor, raining cats and dogs but how can you resist when momma suggests it? I have been trying to get her to shoot for the last few years and she has been , for the most part, completely against it. So, you can imagine my surprise when, out of the blue, she suggested we, ''go shooting''. I was shocked and still am for the most part. She loved it and feels she can do much better with practice, I can't wait.
I started her out on a S&W .357, 6'' with .38 loads and planed on moving up to .45 ACP Colt and then on to .357. We started and finished with .38 loads, and, for this day, that was just fine.
For not having ever shot a gun before she did great!
She only had 5 fliers out of 54 rounds and 5 on the ''10'' ring at 20 feet.

Hear are a few, so so, low light shots of the scene.

I used the quark mini set at 40 lumens to light this last shot as the day light dropped off fast.

Amazing pictures as usual Pepper.

Taking momma shooting is a an awesome feeling mang.

Congrats some nice guns in there.

Thanks friends, I appreciate it. Momma also got photo shooting lessons out of the deal.
I can't tell you how cool it is, for me, that she is excited about this sport.

trog, not at all,The English Pit, have you heard of it? Northe East Vancouver up to 100 yards.

I was going to ask you where you shoot as well. Where is TCGC

http://www.tcgc.org/

Tri County, its out in Sherwood. Busy range, lots of things going on. I shoot at a lot smaller range in Rainier. Atleast until they open the newly built FBI/L.E. range, they built here to the public. ;)

Hav'nt heard of the English Pit,,,

Thanks guys,...... trog, the English Pit is a pistol, rim-fire and rifle range that is an abandoned gravel pit. There are two porta poties , covered shooting tables and that is about it. Very low ball/low key. The thing I like is that there are very few people that go there and , as happened yesterday, when it is windy out you are completely immune to the winds effect, as it is probably 25 feet below grade and it is also surrounded by large conifers. I've never been there with more than a few other people on the whole range.

,,,started her out on a S&W .357 ?!?

And she never shot before ? Nice

Overhere beginning shooters start out with air and when they are considered safe enough they switch to .22LR,,, usually after a year or so,,,

ps: I started out with .38 Special too, as I first shot a gun training at work back in 1996,,, ;)

BTW, those pics of that 1911 spitting fire are friggin' awesome !

+1
Those are great pictures.
Can you do those kind of shots with like a regular
digital camera (sony cybershot or so)
or do you need an expensive SLR type?
You have to time that perfect dont you? Like trying to take
a picture of lightening.

Maybe I better stick to my

polaroid.jpg

Also, great that your better half is interested in
sharing your hobby.
Now remember to return the gesture and take up knitting
or BINGO or whatever she's into. :)

Chibbi and Fug, Lol, and thank you...

Chib, I used to have .22s and wished I had one tro start her out on, .38 is the smallest caliber I have these days. I did hesitate, but only for a moment and it seems to have worked out OK. Today, she wants a ''J''(small) frame S&W with a 2'' barrel, something that fits her hand better! This is the person that wanted nothing to do with guns!

Fug, I believe that you would need a camera that will shoot continuous frames once the shutter button is held down. Even if your camera only shoots a few frames per second it would be trial and error but you could probably do it.There is also a device known as the ,''phototrap'' which is used for remote wildlife photography and lightning strikes, for example. I have never used one however. My camera is a SLR and to get these shots I set it on continuous and tried to anticipate the moment right before she was going to fire. Then I just held the shutter button down and hoped to catch a good one. I ended up with about 25 shots per, ''fire'' shot.
The cool thing was, on the playback you could see that right before she fired the gun she was flinching down, slightly, and I could show that to her. It was like a 10 frame per second video.
BTW,Polaroid probably won't cut it either.
Shopping, that is her thing, not necessarily buying, but browsing endlessly. I'm happier to do it now.
