i just headed over to the local motorcycle shop earlier today and asked for one of their worn out inner tubes. the guy only had a couple because it winter and they don't get a ton of business, but he gladly gave me one.
i cut it up into a few bands and confirmed my suspicions that these are thicker and stronger than those made of bicycle inner tubes. larger diameter too, so they won't work as well on little things. these would be great for those larger tasks though when you are sitting there wondering how on earth you are going to get that ranger band around that thing, if only you could make it fit it would be perfect.
