Ranger knives

For 100 bucks or so, you can't beat it! Brigade Quater Master had my full flat grind RD9 to my door in 3 days. Better luck to you getting a Rat for that price. I also picked up the original Rd9 from Justin at Blade. The Last one he had. Personally, I like the heft of the old stlye and I am currently doing a "chop off" between the two. The old one is nearly 5/16 thick and just looks like a little more love and care went into it. Other than the fininsh flaking off with a stern look, the knife overall for the price can't be beat. Even comes with a nice sheath. I would HIGHLY recommend a RD9 for a large chopper, and the speed you can get one for that instant gratification need just adds to the value. I've the pictures of the full flat grind .....if I only knew how to post them....if you are interested I can email them out.

Gravelface reminded me of only "drawback" of the Ranger knives - the one size of the sheath for all sizes of Ready Detachment series knives.
It is more the thing of easthetics than functionality but I think it is good to know.

However, I like and appreciate that utilitarian "one size fits all" functionality of the sheath. Plus the whole set -up -- the unpretentious but great knife and sheath package, doesn't draw undue attention (i.e., third world countries, your neighborhood, the military, etc.) where a fancier set-up might.

My sheaths were different sizes. (I've got a RD7 and RD9) The only issue I had with one was whenever you pulled the knife out of the sheath that clear plastic part came with it. I sent it to Justin and he sent me a new one that didn't do that.

Go with a Ranger RD. They're available and a bargain. Justin's chose a great steel for these -- 5160. Also, Justin's customer service is excellent.

If you order a swamp rat you will wait a long time and you can never talk to anyone there.
If you order a Ranger you can call justin and talk to him directly. Get it with tan or black micarta or G-10 flat or hollow grind satin or black finish. And if for some reason when you get it you don't like something he will make it right. I have 5. You may wait a week.

I just received an email from Justin and my back order is on the way. I should be able to get knives shipped the same day that they arrive.

Sorry for the wait!

Scott

I appreciate all the input from everyone. Just spoke with Justin this morning and he was holding "my" RD9 with flat grind and black micarta slabs!

Mt RD9 arrived today and it is one HELL of a tank-like blade! I wish the edge were a little sharper but I'll fix that up on the old Sharpmaker right quick. Thanks for the info on Justin and his blades! Jim SEMPER FI:thumbup:

ive got a rd-7 and love it .need to get another one soon probably a rd-6 or 5. spec-ops sheaths fit the rd series perfectly by the way .

I know people were complaining about stuff on backorder...depending on what colors you want, they're in stock at Brigade...I just got a 6 to go with my 9...and it took 4 days to get it :)

Personally, I liked the sheath. Personal opinion I guess. Justin told me aswell that he was waiting a couple of months to make a new batch of RD9s. Nothing wrong with that. He is a relatively small shop if I understand correctly.

Yes he chose a great steel. Actually he did everything right.

Great design, great affordable price, great quality of manufature and great tough steel.

And great customer service...........he's one of "us".

Great job Justin!

I liked tha sheath that came with my RD 6, but I am partial to Kydex, so Eric of On Scene/ Tactical made me a fantastic sheath. My custom RD 4 has a sheath from Buy Brown, I believe. (I think that is what Justin said.)
