I am going to get one of these. The RAK is over $20 cheaper and looks better but it is 1095 steel and almost an inch longer. The RD6 is 5160 steel which should be alot tougher from what I am reading on here. I dont know which I should get. Is the difference is steel that much? Is 1095 going to be more prone to failure when pryed and chopping than the 5160? If so I will order the RD6 no doubt.
Thanks

Hey Wicked...

The RD6 is a fine knife...

I'd go with the RD personally...

simple solution. talk to justin himself and order a RAK in 5160. best of both worlds!:D

another idea would be to get a semi custom RD6. i ordered one with a 1.5" wide blade and 3/16" thick. sorta like a RAK/RD6 hybrid.

I would recommend the RD 6 too. Great knives!! Or like has been said, have Justin make you something.

There is a large difference in the steel, but the main influence on performance will be the stock thickness as the RD series is 1/4" and the RAT knives are 3/16" which is far weaker. Ontario's consistency in heat treating and grind are also the lowest I have seen which raises its own set of problems.

I talked to Justin this morning about the differences. I ordered the RD6. Now for a custom sheath from Eric and I am done for a while.
