The most meta of any of the articles I have written: an analysis of other articles. I took the top 5 articles that provided ratings of various knife steels and I rated their ratings. I also critiqued their descriptions of steel properties that preceded the ratings. Then I ranked the rankings using criteria that was just as objective as the articles themselves.

i agree with you that there is a lot of 'kinda informed' ranking of steels that is suspect at best. thanks for keeping close to the straight and narrow.

I avoid these types of articles (which steel is the best...) because there are so many variables. With modifications, or errors in heat treat, you will get a variety of ranges in the properties for each steel. It seems a monumental task to try ranking steels that could only create generalizations at best.

Well written again Larrin.

And we all know that the Katana has the ultimate steel, it cuts through rocks. I've seen it on tv.

:D

Jokes aside, I found the article great. Both entertaining and educative.
