Rant...WTF is wrong with society..??

Working as an EMT I can cay that you´d be amazed to see how many that dont care.
It would shock you even more to see to what extent some make sacrifices to help another in need. Sounds like you ran into both types in your endeavor.
Thank you for making a difference.

I got to admit I have drove by people along the side of the road before but not before checking that they either help was coming or seeing help already arrived. I have thought people do stand by and watch something bad happen to others but do not offer help. I believe there is actually a study that it is a "human condition" that witnessing someone is distress that we tend to watch and observe rather than "interfere". I don't agree with it and I still like to believe in humanity.

Running a small ranch/farm I have noticed that simple minded animals like chickens, goats, sheep & the like will all just stand around watching from a safe distance while something bad happens to one of their companions. Having a working brain with a conscience is what should separate humans from the dumb animals, yet I see so many examples of people who don't do anything to back that up when it is most needed. It is sad really, but the more distractions offered to sway a person from learning to think logically and be self sufficient, the more you will see these results. The Great Generation and those before that built America didn't have any of these technological distractions yet look at what they accomplished, how hard they worked and how moral our society was back then. Progress? Not so much... but our leadership sure likes how it works in their favor, we are much easier to herd now.

You did a good thing Andy, just don't allow yourself to become complacent like the rest.

Folks don't "want" to get involved in anything that may disrupt their day. Shame we don't help our brothers and sisters as we should but expect others to help us during our time of need.

It's not even being a "good" person, it's the decent thing to do.

The boy was lucky you were there.
You're right, it usually will take quite a few passer-bys before someone stops to help. Most people stop/slow down to check what's going on and take photos rather than help.

Good thing you happened along when you did Andy to help those lads out. Good on ya Bro!!! Yep society as a whole has tanked. It's become an all about me world.

As an update, over the weekend I received a phone call from Sam's father (the investigating Police has called earlier and asked permission to provide my details), he just wanted to thank me and let me know that, despite being touch and go for the first week, they believe that Sam will make a full (though painful and protracted) recovery :D :D :D. That was MUCH better news than I had expected.

Andy

here in Argentina, we don't stop. Feigning a car crash and signaling for help are common and well known tactics to rob you.
In the road, they would, besides above pointed:
a. throw rockd at your windowshield, in order to make you steer and crash and/or stop.
b. bump you from behind, same intentions.
c. when you are stopped at a light, traffic congestion, obstacle, there will como like 10 young dudes and assault you and your vehicle. We call it "robo piraña", wich of course mean piranha robbery.
d.they have thrown mannequins to the road from bridges, so you would freak out and stop.

We are a very cynical society. All of us, when we have to cross the street, we don't care about the way the cars go. We always double check both ways. Because you can't trust even in that.
There is a belief, don't know if with some factual basis or not, that argentinean workers and professional tend to be very successful abroad, because we are used to survive.
Kinda what in the hollywood films they say about newyorkers.

So in Argentina, they would stop to watch the skeletons of everyone in the accident wither and whiten, and still would squint their eyes months later and think "could be a trap..."

Not all that new. In 1951 a man strangling his estranged wife by the side of the road outside Los Vegas (while his 8-year-old son watched, screaming) was passed by seven cars -- most with multiple occupants -- before car No. 8 (a Sheriff's Deputy) happened along and prevented a murder. The County Sheriff said he was "disappointed."

Probably has not gotten better. :o

Wow. What a bunch of PU**ies:rolleyes:

If I was their I would be beating some A**

I can't tell you what's wrong with the world, although i think we all know that there's plenty, but i'll tell you with absolute certainty that i will NEVER walk or drive by a person in that kind of need, without stopping and doing EVERYTHING in my power to help. Be the change you want to see. In a world full of whining pansies, the actions of one man matter. My actions will not change the world, but Garth Brooks said it, and i live by it

"It's not the world that I am changing. I do this so, this world will know, that it will not change me"

Way to help out Andy!! Not surprising at all though. Not sure about Aus. but here we're talking about people that don't even feel obligated to get the hell out of the way in the store, etc. when their cart is taking up half of the isle and their arse is taking up the rest. It kills me when they go even further by giving me a look like I'm bothering them somehow by just waiting to get by. One thing for sure is that this generation will produce a next generation of even way more of these people who will be even worse .
Sadly it's happening exponentially.
