After the Bowie/Ax thread, this caught my eye. How useful would this actually be? I am intrigued by it, but was wondering if it would be worth it? Anyone have any experience?

Wondering if it would be worth the weight over a small ax. Would it really add versatility?

looks a little off-the-wall for my tastes. But, as far as function, it looks a little narrow at a point near the sharpener, so I would be really concerned about durability.

It looks more of a butcher knife with a long handle, depending on the width of the edge, it may make a mean chopper.

it's hard to tell from the pics how much steel is lost with that sharpener placement but i can't imagine myself relying on a tool with ANY weakness in that area. a similar sharpening would add nearly no weight to a kit if it were kept seperate. personally i don't see the point other than as bait or gimmick.
furthermore i don't love that the handle is so straight. especially without a lanyard hole. some sort of swell at the end or a lanyard hole (if not both!) would be well advized additions.
this tool makes me nervous. i admit i have never seen or held one, let alone used one, but it looks like an accident waiting to happen. and hatchet accidents are not going to be small accidents.
just my .02c.
As an aside, i have heard good things about rapid river around BF. Never seen this thing before though.

With a full tang handle and a light weight head, I bet that things will jar your hands and vibrate viciously...

It looks interesting, but that sharpener is really a turn-off for me. Can't tell from the pictures how thick it is. I agree that the handle could use a little shaping as well. Look forward to seeing a review.
