Hi friends,

I've just purchased another collectible and have committed to trading the costs from my knife collection. Sigh...

Bob Garbe hailed from Michigan and was renowned for this little style. He has passed away, and they have become very scarce. I'll bet many of you have never seen such.

It's well made, and well designed. The pearl is VERY polished and slippery. Although it has an ambi thumbstud, it is a bit hard to open, only because it's like holding a bar of soap. :p

2" (50mm) blade, 4 3/4" (125mm)OAL Solid lockup and smooth tension opening and back into the well. A bit of blade movement in the well, but not egregious. I'm sure it was made this way. It's a birthday-party, gift-wrap opening, sheeple-admiring, Sunday-go-to-meeting blade. :D There is a tiny drilled hole in the backspine base, which could fit a ring, and could give it a tether, or make it a nice 'neck knife'

If you don't like this, I GUARANTEE your lady friend will, and then she'll get off your back about your purchases. Or, even better... ;) (It's Valentines Day soon, boys!)

Price: $Sold

Shipped FREE in USA. PayPal preferred, NO fees. No trade offers, thank you.

(I'll ship International ONLY with an increase of $25 for paperwork and shipping costs. Sorry.)

I'll gladly answer questions. First confirmation in this thread, seals the deal.

Thanks for your consideration.

Jim, do the thumb stud ends project much beyond the pearl scales ?
"A bit hard to open" is a bit hard to assess as it covers a range. Does it take a few attempts ?
I've never owned a knife with movement in the well. Can you move it from one liner to the other ?
And finally, is it sharp enough to easily shave arm hairs ?
I ask all this because i find it quite attractive and am interested but also a little concerned, as i've come to expect nesr perfection from buying folders from the excellent knifemakers who post here on BF.
thanks, eh, roland

Hi Roland:

The studs extend about .060" beyond the scales when closed. There is plenty of traction there.

It's only hard to open with one hand. Gary Levine taught me years ago that, although thumbstuds can facilitate 'one-hand' opening, it's not a requirement, especially on a gents folder. I was able to do this several times one handed, but it's like playing a violin. It takes training. :)

Sharp as can be. Yes.

It's not sloppy like you can hear a rattling, but I can generate about .040" tip movement. The scales are epoxied on (I think), so there is no further adjustment that I can tell. It's hardly a weak point in its overall assessment.

I offer a guarantee of satisfaction, if you think it's completely inappropriate. I never thought twice about it.

Thanks Jim. I'm not sure what you mean might be "completely inappropriate", but the additional information satisfies me that there are no real "issues" with this knife. And your guarantee is as good as it gets.
PM coming.

Bob Garbe is my grand father still alive & well. He has retired from knife making. I will post some pictures of some more of his masterpieces, that he has passed down to my father & I.
